Thrown Glove Makes Contact with Batted Ball
The left center fielder throws his glove and it makes contact with a batted ball hit in the gap. The ball is picked up and the fielder throws it to the third baseman who tags the runner before he reaches 3B. What's the call?

If a batted ball is contacted by a thrown glove all runners are automatically awarded three bases. If a thrown ball is contacted by a thrown glove all runners are awarded two bases.

Gentlemen, I appreciate your responses. I really do. But no one has answered my question. Rick35, I know that's not the rule. Clean Up, I do like your comment. Stever, I agree that you have stated the rule correctly.

The thing is, my friend and I disagree on what the call should be. And, I would really like to be right. So please help me out, what's the call? SSUSA officials, feel free to chime in.

THE CALL: If the tag was made on the batter-runner, he is awarded 3rd base. If the tag was on a base runner on base at the time of the pitch, he is awarded Home and a run is recorded. (Your fact pattern did not indicate the initial status, batter-runner or base-runner, of the runner tagged at 3rd)
__________

OFFICIAL SSUSA RULE BOOK §8.4(10)C.WHEN RUNNERS ARE ENTITLED TO ADVANCE (pages 46-47)

When a fielder intentionally contacts or catches a fair batted or thrown ball with his helmet, cap, mask, protector, pocket, detached glove or any part of his uniform that is detached from its proper place on their person. EFFECT: The runners would be entitled to three bases from the time of the pitch if a batted ball, or two bases from the time of the throw if a thrown ball, and in either case, they can advance farther at their own risk. If the illegal catch or touch is made on a fair hit ball that, in the umpire’s judgment, would have cleared the outfield fence in flight, the batter-runner should be awarded a four-base award.
__________

NOTE: The ball remains live (NOT a dead ball) to allow runner(s) to advance further at their own risk.
