March 24, 2016 deep14 102 posts | courtesy runners This may sound crazy. We are out of central california AAA team. We are looking for guys that like to run. Meaning courtesy runners. We want to keep our guys fresh for the year.We will provide jersey's You will also not have to pay for any of the tournaments entered, we are a bunch of great guys to hang out with. Sounds crazy but if interested and you are fast and a great base runner we need ya. Thanks |
March 24, 2016 Fred S Men's 85 297 posts | Not crazy. I know of a couple of teams in my area that do that. They carry 18-20 players with 5 or 6 players who just run. I noticed that the first time I played against them. Just about every batter in the lineup had a courtesy runner. |
March 24, 2016 Wes Men's 65 335 posts | deep14 I would love to run for you but I'm in Louisville Ky Wes |
March 24, 2016 deep14 102 posts | Good to here Fred S. and thank you Wes |
March 25, 2016 Trout 6 posts | I am down to help a team win anyway I can... |
March 25, 2016 Uncle Mike Men's 60 122 posts | You are located pretty close to McFarland, surely you can find some runners there !!! We all saw the movie !!! JK !!! Couldn't resist !!! Oxnard Rookies |
March 25, 2016 Player 86 posts | Wes, keep that thought in mind for this summer. The Legends will let you play the outfield AND run every inning - just to keep you into the game! LOL! |
March 25, 2016 deep14 102 posts | Hey Trout, Where are you located |
March 28, 2016 Trout 6 posts | I am located in Indio, Ca. Will travel |
March 30, 2016 Dancer 115 posts | Wow, I never knew teams had designated runners. You are offering no tournament fees and free jersey. Damn, the runners have better fringe benefits than the players. When you throw in travel expense too, I am in. :) Since I live in Texas, I can only play for Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas and Mexico (since it touches Texas boarder too) LOL. I am 56 and my contact is dancerclown@msn.com I am looking for a Major Plus team to run for. PS. paid travel expense will have to include my wife. My people will contact your people to work out the details. (I hope you realized I am not serious, but if I can get it, I will take it, LOL). |
March 30, 2016 garyheifner 649 posts | Lost a world championship "IF" game in high heat. The opponents had 7 guys on the bench in a close game. They ran for every guy who got a hit. Was the difference in a close game. We were down to 10 due to injuries. Hope you would let them play once in while when you are way up or it is a game that doesn't matter. Your best chance would be a guy with like arm or shoulder injuries that still wants to be a part of a team |
March 31, 2016 FOFO Men's 60 284 posts | While I believe and have seen teams with guys that do nothing but courtesy run, I cannot imagine anyone wanting to do it. To much fun playing D and hitting. As for me I would like to see a restriction of one runner per inning for the use of courtesy runners in the Major and Major Plus divisions in the 50 thru 60 and maybe 65 divisions. Seems to me if you are a Major or Major Plus player you should be able to run. |
March 31, 2016 deep14 102 posts | Yes like Gary said, comes down to freshness at the end. Found a few guys local thanks. |
April 6, 2016 MB21 1 posts | Where are you located and where are your current tournaments? I am located in Sacramento area. They tell me I am fast I think it is only because old guys can't throw like they did 40 years ago. Still good on bases although hook slide is not what it used to be. |
April 6, 2016 1bounce Men's 55 35 posts | Ill run for beers if your buying |
April 6, 2016 DaveDowell Men's 70 4313 posts | A couple years ago, a member submitted a written request to the SSUSA National Rules Committee to limit CR's to a maximum of two per inning, UNLESS beer was involved, then the number would be three ... The Committee didn't go for it! |
April 6, 2016 deep14 102 posts | Good one dave. Thanks for the responses. I located a couple guys. Thanks |
April 7, 2016 Captain Marauder Men's 65 91 posts | I am looking for a couple of outfielders [ players] out of Alaska Alberta Idaho Washington Montana or BC. A couple of CR,s would help as well. We play 70 AAA , if you know anyone who hasn't got a team who wants to play have them call George at 702 516 2395 US or 778 588 5695 Canada |
April 11, 2016 The Screamer5 Men's 60 69 posts | I know this isn't going to be a very popular opinion. While I applaud deep14 and his team with coming up with a great idea to recruit courtesy runners to keep their regular guys fresh during the year,... (kind of wish I had thought of it myself for our team), a part of me also believes the overuse of courtesy runners isn't in the best interest of our game, especially in the younger senior divisions (50s, 55s). I'd personally like to see more players running for themselves when they can. Too many times, a courtesy runner is used because a player who has reached base safely simply doesn't "feel" like running. On every team you have a combination of fast runners, medium speed runners, slow runners, good base runners and bad base runners. That's just the way it is. Base running is a big part of the game and I believe the natural flow of the game is slightly disturbed when we are allowed to used unlimited courtesy runners per inning. I agree with FOFO above... that maybe we should limit the use of a courtesy runner to one runner per inning. At least that would put a little more strategy into it's use and would force more people to run for themselves. |
April 12, 2016 FOFO Men's 60 284 posts | Your opinion is popular with me Sreamer. |
April 13, 2016 Enviro-Vac Men's 65 489 posts | Well said Screamer. The use of CR's is overdone. |
April 13, 2016 curveball Men's 65 705 posts | My opinion won't be popular either. ASA had it best of all associations at one time. You can courtesy run once per game and only one CR per inning. So you have 7 different possible CR's to be used just once. Need to make wise managerial decisions. It takes away from the game to have unlimited CR's. It's one of the 5 tools to play the dang game; if you don't have one of those tools, tough luck. |
April 14, 2016 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | tell me curveball......i'm with you on this matter.....yes i'm slow but ran the bases smartly....now i'm even slower...but don't mind running for myself...but b/c i'm slow they always run for me..... |
April 14, 2016 Lumberjack16 Men's 80 20 posts | Gentlemen, If they would just require that the courtesy runner had to be in the lineup, that would eliminate the practice of teams just carrying courtesy runners. In that case, the CR would at least have to hit and maybe also play defense. |
April 14, 2016 curveball Men's 65 705 posts | Mad dog..............you ain't slow, you just run smartly!!!! Lumberjack, great starting idea to the CR rule. I like it way better than the way it is. |
April 14, 2016 Enviro-Vac Men's 65 489 posts | Agreed with the Dog and Lumberjack. |
April 14, 2016 FOFO Men's 60 284 posts | Lumberjack, not a bad idea. I still would rather have limits on the number you can use. Makes a huge difference having a slow guy on base who can only go base to base versus a guy that goes 1st to 3rd and 2nd to home. I'm most definitely against having guys on a team that do nothing but run. That's just not how the game was meant to be played. |
