Mask On Field
Our league has been encouraging fielders to get Face Masks. A number of guys have purchased Rip Its and Champros. 1 guy posed the question what happens if a fielder has a senior moment, takes his mask off during a play a drops it in the base line which causes a runner to fall or have to change course and run around.
1. Do the current rules of SSUSA cover this? If yes, what is the rule?
2. Should a rec league adopt a special rule for this or are existing rules good enough.

Thank You.

I would say that the existing rules covering interference would cover this.

since this is a local league I would write up a specific rule covering this if you seem to have a problem...also since the penalty is on the defense it would be obstruction not interference

Watched and played in many, many games...never seen it happen!

If it is a senior moment then a ball glove or some other item that could be dropped in the base line.

Don't know if would want to run bases with dangerous guys like that on the field.
