Batter batting out of order
I'm looking for clarification of the wording in rule 7.1 - Batting order. What does the wording "except for a wrong batter at bat" refer to in: EFFECT - §7.1 B-D: Except for a wrong batter at bat, batting out of order is an appeal play that may be made only by the defensive team.
How does "a wrong batter" differ from a batter "batting out of order"? And,is the "wrong batter" immediately called out without appeal, replaced by the correct batter with or without penalty, or other?
Is this covered in another rule or section?
Thank you.

it is worded that way because if the defense were to appeal that the wrong batter was at bat they would just remove that batter and insert the correct batter and he would assume any balls and strikes...the defense will usually wait to see the result of that at bat... if the batter gets a hit or walk then make the appeal for a out

to add to that if the wrong batter makes an out and the defense does not say anything the next batter should be whoever follows the incorrect batter in the line up.... the batter who missed his at bat does not come to bat until the next time thru the line up
