June 14, 2016 Hookdup 27 posts | Price Went Up? Worlds I just noticed that the price went up to $745 for Worlds. Is there something special that teams are going to get for that kind of money? That's twice a normal tourney fee. Why the high cost? |
June 14, 2016 wdodge22 Men's 55 152 posts | Actually, most qualifiers increased in price this year between 4% and 8% over last years prices. But at the same time, most municipalities at least in California have raised their field rental fees due to cost of labor, fuel, insurance, etc... Even Big League Dreams raised their entry fees from $3 per person to $5 per person. Worlds last year was $695, so its only a 7.2% increase. Which I think is the first increase since 2014. ( I could be wrong on that one. ) |

June 14, 2016 nickname36 92 posts | Hey Good one Dbax, you beat me to it, LOL LOL.... I thought they would drop shadow rock and hollywood after they got cheyenne into the mix.... 745$ per team is little to steep for my blood and our team will stay home, its not worth spending approx 550$ + per person to play at shadow rock and hollywood for the weekend. I can go to san diego and sit on the beach and look at the hottie's in bikini's and drink beer and its cheaper and more fun then playing softball in vegas. They even did away with the breakfast buffet coupons at boulder station, that wouldn't change my mind or the teams mind about playing, but I thought I'd put that out there. |

June 14, 2016 nickname36 92 posts | They would have to comp my room and food for me to stay at az charlie's again, and then I'd still have to think about it, terrible rooms for the money. It's tough for a self sponsored team to play in a 745$ tournament plus expense's when your from out of state. We can play 2 maybe 3 tournaments at home for the cost of the vegas entry fee and play on better fields then shadow rock and hollywood. Just My 2cents......... |
June 15, 2016 Duke Men's 65 908 posts | The price is high, but the tournament is the best run tournament, especially for the amount of teams that attend. Where else are you going to have so many teams from all over the USA and foreign countries? If you do the math, a team with 12 players, only pays an extra $4 per player to play, with the additional cost. Besides the high cost and high volume of teams, there are only so many fields to be used. The explosion of teams over the past 4-5 years is incredible. We all enjoy playing teams that we never get to see. This is a business as well. Assuming there are not many more options for fields, it is smart to increase the fees a little, even if, some teams decide to not attend. You make the same amount of money and a few less teams. It takes a lot of time and effort to run a tournament of this magnitude. I have to say, that SSUSA does it well. As Nickname36 has said ".......go to san diego and sit on the beach and look at the hottie's in bikini's and drink beer.........." I have to say that does sound better than playing softball in Vegas. Instead, I would rather go to the largest tournament in the world to play teams that I do not know, and then go to the beach in San Diego. JMHO, Andy Smith, 65 Major |

June 15, 2016 coop3636 514 posts | A friend of mine's team got 2nd in the 60 Majors last year in Vegas All they got was individual medallions. (AND bumped to Major Plus) No tee shirts, no bats, not batting gloves, just a medallion. I think the top 3 teams should have a good prize package. This is the most expensive, biggest tourney of the year. The 1st place team gets a HUGE package. Hopefully someone will listen and take some of the extra money and get the 2nd and 3rd teams a better prize package. (I know we are not supposed to play for the prizes, but the Vegas tourney should be an exception. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope this gets to the right people. Brett |

June 16, 2016 coop3636 514 posts | TG69 You have NO idea how much time I have or what I do for a living. I am just passionate about the game of softball. Maybe you need to spend more time on improving the game we play than worrying what I do on my spare time. Brett |
