Midwest Championship Rogers Ark
I have a question for SSUSA ....... I totally understand that Mother Nature showed her ugly head and rained out the games Friday .... So we start the pool play and it's 5 inning games that's great and fine ... Then the bracket play starts and it's still 5 inning game ( WTH ) why could we not play 7 innings and go to a 1-1 count ..... It was suggested by more people than just our team there were 3 directors there who told us that the decision was made in Sacramento ???? If that's the case WHY are there 3 directors on site and just what decisions are they allowed to make other than post scores...... Please help me understand the decision that was made

Pitcher22 ... We'll take the observations and questions in order ...

• You COULD have played 7-inning games starting in the bracket if you wouldn't have minded Saturday games ending at about 12:30 AM on Sunday morning, with winners/survivors being due back at 8:00 AM ... The SEVEN total rounds of games (five from Friday and the first two rounds on Sunday) could have been played at 7:30, 9:00, 10:45, Noon, 1:15, 2:30 and 3:45 (ending at 5:00 PM IF everything was on time ... Then the FIVE rounds of Saturday bracket games, if there was no break between seeding and Bracket, would have been at 5:00, 6:30, 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 PM, ending around 12:30 AM IF everything was on time ...
• We played the 5-innings format to avoid that late a Saturday finish, and the actual finish was about 9:00 PM after the 7:45 PM games ... SSUSA DOES NOT do the 1-1 count unless it's the second-to-last resort before 1-pitch, so that's an easy answer ... For the specifics of the weather affected recovery procedures, please see page 54 of the Rule Book at SECTION 10 - ADVERSE WEATHER ...
• There was no "decision made in Sacramento" unless you are referring to the early morning (4:00 AM Pacific Time) discussion between the onsite Directors and the National Scheduling Consultant in California ... The consensus was reached very quickly that it was prudent and appropriate to apply the Rule Book provisions that are designed specifically for this type of adverse weather circumstance ... We did so ...
• The Directors on site, along with the superb grounds crew in Rogers, worked their tails off appropriately, intelligently and completely within the guidelines we have for dealing with Mother Nature ... We couldn't be more proud of their performance ... Mother Nature led in the early innings, but didn't win ...

We would do (and have done) the same thing under similar circumstances in a heartbeat! ... It's a proven methodology that gets ALL of the games played and maintains the integrity of the competition ...

Hope this helps your understanding! ...

My question on Saturday is why were the games still 1 hour 15 instead of a shorter time since the games were only 5 innings. If they would have been shorter and you might have got all the pool games in on Saturday. We waited every time for the umpire to show up to start the game. Only 1 game started 8 minutes early. Otherwise both teams just stood around. When the games got behind on 1 field why not move games to some of the other open fields on Saturday? I agree we got ripped paying the money we did and only getting 5 inning games. Long way to travel to lose 12 innings of play (which is 2 games). We also were not happy we had to go to Rogers. KC is more in the middle of all the teams.

I agree not one of our games went to the time limit, 1 and 1 with an hour time limit would have been better then the hour and fifthteen min time limit for 5 innings, with that said still had a great time at the almost in the midwest championships or its close enough to the midwest championships

Wel from what I hear sounds like the SSUSA needs to take a new VOTE on the 1-1 ...... Also no rain on Saturday or Sunday ....... Why could we not play 7 inning games on Sunday ??? I see you answered most of my questions but failed to answer the why were there 3 directors there and just what were they there for other than to post scores...... They are not allowed to make decisions for the better of the tournament for fear of getting there hands slap by BIG BROTHER.......

creins, I have complained for years about teams ready to play and have to wait 10-20 minutes for the Umps. This happens in all organizations. A lot of the time the 1st game of the day starts late
