| July 24, 2016 coop3636 514 posts | to SSUSA Has SSUSA ever thought of allowing one player from outside their boundary limits to play ? SPA does it and the people I have asked about like it. It lets that friend that moves away still play with his friends. (or just to pick up a friend of a player that doesn't touch your state) Just an suggestion for the next convention. Brett We are in that situation now, a player moved (at the end of last year) that had played with us for many years and can't now because of the rules. |

The catch is that you have to play Major+ to utilize that opportunity ... We also routinely "grandfather" protect a player who moves mid-season, allowing him to remain with the former residence area team for the balance of that season ... I don't personally perceive enough potential votes on the National Rules Committee to expand that limitation ... |

| July 25, 2016 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | Fred S, Considering the limited group of 80+ players nation-wide, wouldn't this have the potential of resulting in a few "super-teams" and eliminate a lot of average 80+ players from serious competitive opportunity. Of the 80+ teams I know, they have several players on their rosters who really aren't in good physical shape (always need a runner, no power much beyond 125 feet, etc.), but are in the games because of long years of personal relationships and friendships. If a team could cherry-pick the best from anywhere in the country, this would harm the normal 80+ teams scattered throughout the states. If some of these teams lost a couple of critical guys (e.g. good fielding pitcher; number four slugger; ground-covering shortstop; etc.) they would likely fold in discouragement. |
| July 26, 2016 Fred S Men's 85 297 posts | All things being equal you may be right. I am from the N.E. and there are very few 80 teams in my area. Most teams are from Fl and Mid-West and West Coast and most of the times there rosters are pretty well set. I played for a 75 team out of Va but for various reasons they dropped down to the 70 Div which meant I couldn't play with then anymore because of territorial restrictions. |
| July 26, 2016 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | Fred S, I feel for all the older guys in the N.E. Not only is your season shorter, but the pool of senior softball players is likely smaller. I play in California, where there are tournaments almost every weekend, and the 80+ senior team that my older league buddies play on, plays about 18 tournaments a season. I can imagine that it is tough to build a competitive 80+ team...or even a team that can stay heathy enough all season. |
| July 26, 2016 Fred S Men's 85 297 posts | We have one 80 National Tournament team from the Cape but they have their own feeder system through the National tournament teams in the other age divisions and you have to join their league which is a 4 hr ride round trip. Oh well!! |
