Shoulder Replacement
Has anybody experienced a shoulder replacement?

How long was the recovery ? How long before you could play softball ?

Thank you

I have several friends/players on my teams that have had shoulder replacement and will be having it again this week. The recovery time depends on how severe the surgery needed. Also, everyone might have different recovery periods. For one player, he pretty much had his shoulder replacement and completely cleaned out the first time in major surgery. He was out of commission for about 1 year. He is getting surgery again this week, and the surgery is not as severe, and he will be out 4-5 months. Keep this in mind, many of my friends have had shoulder surgery, and regardless of the recovery time, not everyone is able to hit and throw as before. This one guy that is getting surgery for the second time, after his initial surgery, had trouble throwing the ball more than 30 feet max. I think it will be the same for him after the second surgery or worse. That has been the case with almost all that I know. On the positive side, there was one friend that had shoulder surgery and recovered in 4-6 months. After about 18 months, he could throw very hard, and he is a younger guy and probably not as a severe surgery as most. That is all I know about this surgery, because I have not had shoulder surgery.

Just scheduled my right shoulder for replacement in November. I did this after talking to my surgeon and several people who have gone through the operation. Both of those had glowing reports about the procedure and are back to playing softball. One in about four months and the other after six months. My doctor told me that I could start to play after three or four months if I did the rehab religiously. I already have two knee replacements and am very happy with those results. Same group of doctors.

45261 do yourself a favor research reverse shoulder replacement and ask your surgeon to explain it to you and why they do them. Good luck.

Were many of these guys who have had shoulder surgery American football players at some point?
