Wayne37, perhaps I'm beating a dead horse here but you posed this question earlier which I found interesting:
If anybody should feel disrespected in this country, it is President Obama. I've never read or heard so much BS in all my life directed to one person. They even talk BS about his wife. Why is it the same people that think they are the patriots of America feel it is their undeniable right to slander and libel about their sitting president?
I won't disagree the man has experienced heavy criticism but allow me to answer your question with this quote:

"I'm sick and tired of people who say if you debate and disagree with this administration, somehow your not patriotic. We need to stand up and say we're Americans, and we have the right to debate and disagree with any administration"

Can you guess who authored this quote?

I can. It was NY Senator Hillary Clinton in 2003 defending the patriotism of critics of George Bush

I think it is ironic that the previous discussion which was basically a discussion that started about free speech was closed down so there could be no further comment. If people don't want to read it and take part in the discussion, move on to the next thread. There's no harm in people discussing difficult matters and exchanging thoughts and comments. Based on the participation in that discussion, it seemed to matter a lot more to the folks on this board than most of the topics that are discussed.

I don't agree with all that Webbie said but I appreciate him trying to encourage some thoughtful dialogue on the issue. It's the only way that we can move forward. There were many in that thread that took the time to research the issues and provide resources where they got their facts which is great for the discussion.

STL0 ... It's about responsible free speech here ... The other thread was closed because it had devolved into an excessive number of disparaging comments directed at individuals ... And it had very little to do with the best interests of Senior Softball ... No problem with this revival, but let's play nicely this time ...

Ah yes...free speech, an often misunderstood and misinterpreted amendment...especially on the internet.

Actually for an internet discussion, it was pretty tame but I understand your point. I thought it was a pretty good exchange of thoughts for the most part. I don't understand how people making arguments in a discussion think their point is made more credible by calling someone else names but some people operate that way.

These types of discussions get uncomfortable at times but at least people are talking about it and offering solutions and ideas. So play nicely everyone!

Dear stick8,

"I'm sick and tired of people who say if you debate and disagree with this administration, somehow you're not patriotic. We need to stand up and say we're Americans, and we have the right to debate and disagree with any administration"

How often does a very educated, intelligent and articulate person speak and very thing he says and does is wrong? When the Dixie Chicks said they weren't proud to be from Texas, George W. Bush's faux home state, an uproar ensued. When the murdering president of the Philippines calls our sitting president a SOB, they go wild like feeding piranhas to agree with him.

It is just utterly disgraceful bigotry and hatred. And that is a fact! The right has moved so far over to the extreme, there isn't any middle ground anymore. The flag stands for a lot of things. Many of them I haven't and never will agree with.

Wayne, I was also outraged that he actually said that in public. I looked long and hard to find which Republicans actually came out and agreed with the Philippine president publicly. I went to Huffington, CNN, MSNBC and a few others. I am unable to find any references to it anything Republicans said. Could you please provide me with names of the Republicans that did this so I can write them and express my displeasure? You are right that Obama should not be subjected to the same type of criticism that Bush received from the Democrats. I remember being very glad when the Democrats apologized for that.

Wayne37, I can understand your frustration but keep in mind, when your the top dog--whether that be POTUS, a known celebrity, a star athlete, entertainer, even the top senior softball team in your division, there are always those who are going to be critical no matter what. It just goes with the territory.
Like Webbie asked, I'm also curious which prominent republicans publically praised the Phillipines President for his comments toward Obama? I would think if there were the media would (borrowing your line here) go "wild like feeding piranahs".
Even Donald Trump condemned those comments.

Dear Webbie25,

I wasn't talking about the television news media. I was referring to Facebook pages with their comments and those with a comment and blog section.

It doesn't have to be on that one particular incident. It's everything from the economy to the unemployment rate. You name it. Even good news is bad news as they deny it to be true.

They go off on Hillary, also. They call the FLOTUS a tranny even. Why I used the words slander and libel in an earlier post.

Like I said earlier the right has moved so far to the right, the left doesn't have any other place to go except further to the left. There is no compromise with right wing Republicans.

If Donald Trump condemned those comments, he will probably change his mind tomorrow......LOL

I agree that the system is rigged for the most part......but check out the pro-military, pro-police faction that goes off on an Iraq war veteran, Tammy Duckworth. They should play the Star Spangled Banner every time she walks into the room. Even the bathroom!

RIK56, Tammy Duckworth is an Iraq war veteran who is a double amputee. She servves as a democratic congressional representative from Kansas. I believe she is running for a Senate seat think year. While most people would agree her service is commendable in a nutshell her criticism from pro military pro police people stems from her liberal left wing viewpoints regarding the war.
As I understood it some felt she was using her status as an amputee and Iraq veteran as political ploy to get elected.

Wayne, I don't do facebook-or much social media at all-this is the only place I blog.I don't hide here either, people know who I am. I get a kick out of pointing out 'political inaccuracies' by both parties. I think all politicians are liars. Having said that.....
Wayne, do you know what the participation rate is with regard to the unemployment rate? It is a much more important figure than the 'unemployment rate'.Very simply, it is the percentage of Americans in the work force. You have to understand this to really understand where unemployment really is. I would guess most Americans do not know this or how to read the Bureau of Labor Statistics statistics. And that is why EVERY administration has lied about the unemployment rate. They can, easily. Once a person has exhausted his or her unemployment benefits, they can be removed from the 'participation rate' figure as not looking for work. This is arbitrary-they can choose not to do this, but most administrations do because removal means the unemployment rate figure goes DOWN. Sir, I became part of this when I was laid off in 2013. I was dropped from the list as not looking, although I was frantically trying to find a job. This is one of the big lies all administrations have used for a long time. But this administration has used this like no other has, and even used it to influence the last election in 2012. When the papers came out and said Obama needed the rate to be under 8 to get reelected, it was sitting at 8.1%. All of a sudden, magically, with very little job creation-well under 200,000 jobs which mathematically could not drop the rate that far by itself, the rate dropped to 7.8%. They took well over 1 million people off the rolls to accomplish it. And the liberal media went with it-touting the drop with only minimal reference to the fact that the participation rate had dropped to level not seen in many, many years. The media knew if they just referenced it, they could always say they covered it, but they knew the parties would not say much-they both do it. Wayne, it is all in the BLS website put out by the government, but very few know how to interpret it and Obama knows he will get away with it. Somebody with more time than I have could figure it exactly, but it is really between 8 and 9%. THIS, AND OTHER C**P THAT THEY PUT OUT TO MAKE THEMSELVES LOOK GOOD IS THE REASON I BELIEVE ANYONE WITH AN I FOR INCUMBENT BESIDE THEIR NAME NEEDS TO GO!!! The Establishment on both sides is a mess. And people are realizing it, hence the rise in Trump and even Bernie. Everything is not as it seems as presented by this administration.........
AND WAYNE, YOU HAVE TOTALLY DUCKED ANSWERING TO THE ISSUE THAT THE DEMOCRATS HAVE TREATED BUSH, AND OTHER REPUBLICANS JUST AS BADLY AS YOU FEEL OBAMA HAS BEEN TREATED. And Trump is not really a Republican, but scares the media and the establishment to death. Infinitely better choice that the same old Hillary-we know nothing will ever change with her.

Wayne37, interesting you mention Gary Johnson. Third party candidates are generally in the race to take votes from one candidate in order to help the other. It was commonly believed that a vote for Ross Perot helped Bill Clinton in 1992. A vote for Ralph Nader helped George W Bus in 2000. Taking away his baffling comments who do think a vote for Johnson helps, Trump or Hillary?
Keep in mind Johnson did run in the GOP,primary in 2012. Or was it 2008? (JimmyG help me out here!! lol)

as for taking votes away...not sure but think it would be from the dumpster....as he yet has made any sense in what he says.....at least hillbilly has plans for what she says....whether good or bad....

Dear stick8,

The blurb was from the humor section of The New Yorker........what do you expect? Humor just like the Bill Maher clip.

I'm sure Nader took votes away from Gore, just like the hanging chads gave votes to Pat Buchannan. However, it should be more noted that Gore was denied a legal recount in Florida, where his brother Jeb was governor because the ultra-conservative Supreme Court let Bush do an end run to the presidency.

The system sucked us into the Great Recession like a roaring vacuum into the great abyss.

Hey, mad dog-what's up? I know Gary Johnson personally-he played softball in Albuquerque. He did do a lot of good in New Mexico. He had a huge veto pen and kept the very liberal legislature in check spending wise. We have a mess here from 60 years of Democratic control of the legislature, and even now, after losing the house for the first time in those 60 years, the senate has blocked so many needed reforms. They blocked changes on our licenses that gave drivers licenses to illegals, until they finally had to pass it so we didn't have to use passports to fly in the USA here. They have something called 'social promotion' which passes third graders to fourth grade, even if they cannot read. And then they cannot ever catch up and we have about the worst dropout rate in the country. And then Bill Richardson came in-we had an oil boom and a $650M budget surplus and he spent $1B on a train that runs only from Belen (35 miles south of Albuquerque-to Santa Fe)and services very few passengers and will never come close to covering it's own costs, and the Spaceport-($200+M). We are poor again. We could have banked that-or spent it on building a better business base here. There is almost nothing outside of oil & Gas, Government, and Agriculture here because of very high taxes. And they want to raise them again.
Hey Wayne-on the vote for Gore in 2008-there was one way that Gore did win that was verified by an independent report from 2004. He actually requested-and got- a recount of 4 counties only instead of the whole state of Florida. That was a 'calculated maneuver' by Gore because he thought would win it for him. If he had just recounted the whole state, he would have won. He tripped himself up trying to be cute.
To me, I was very curious here what might happen if I put out some truths-with verification- and observations. It has proved conclusively to me that people will read what they want to, believe what they want to, hold on to their anger if they want to, and ignore evidence to the contrary when they want to. Emotions are running them-and this is the plan of the 2 parties to preserve the 2 party system and their power. Wayne will not change, Mad Dog will not change, Stick will not change. Even in the face of hard evidence to the contrary, they will not change. I have made up my mind, and I bet the rest of the board is tired of this. But it has been pretty quiet and tame lately! LOL I learned in psychology class that some people actually thrive off their anger. They cannot live without it. If Gary Johnson has a better chance of beating Hillary, I will vote for him, Mad Dog-I did in 2012. But my vote will undoubtedly be against Hillary. And I will continue to vote against 'Establishment' candidates that will continue to line their own pockets at our expense-like the Clintons, and the rest of them. They should all be sitting next to Hillary in jail.
Less than 2 weeks to Worlds! Let's play ball.

Webbie,

When Johnson, "establishment" Republican, took the tiller in New Mexico in 1995, the budget stood at $4.397 billion. When he left in 2003, it had grown to $7.721 billion, an increase of 7.29 percent a year. Of the eleven governors who filed to run for president this year (two Democrats, Johnson, and eight Republicans), only one had a worse record on spending growth.

Johnson inherited a debt of $1.8 billion and left a debt of $4.6 billion, a rate of increase unmatched by the 22 governors in either party who have filed for presidential primaries in the past two decades, with the exception of Governor Tom Vilsack (D-IA) in 2007.

Now that he is Libertarian, what has he done lately? Reagan switched parties and that was a miserable experience for working class Americans.

What are his platforms and ideas on how to make America the great bastion of democracy it claims it is?

I'm very well aware of the happening in the recount. If I remember correctly, there were two independent studies done, not actually recounts.

I'm always willing to change. I just don't want to change back to what didn't work before.
