Sept. 8, 2016 Homer Simpson Men's 55 27 posts | Cleats What are some of the better softball cleats out there now? I've been wearing Tanel 360's for the last 10 years. They are out of business now. |
Sept. 8, 2016 yellowjacket95 Men's 55 36 posts | My last 3 pairs have been Boombah turf shoes. I stay away from molded cleats since I play infield and they tend to hurt my feet after a few games. The last pair (Riot Fades) had the sole separate from the shoe after 4 months. Boombah replaced them but I was stuck at the tourney between games with only one option... go to the Adidas vendor and buy their turf shoe. I actually love them and most likely won't wear the Boombah again since the Adidas are lighter and more comfortable. Good luck with whatever you choose! |
Sept. 8, 2016 Dbax Men's 65 2100 posts | When I'm allowed to play I wear Mizuno 9 spike Blast turf shoes. They've lasted 5 seasons now. $60 on Amazon. |
Sept. 8, 2016 RIK56 Men's 60 137 posts | Nike trail running shoes works the best for me. |
Sept. 8, 2016 #19 Men's 70 302 posts | I have had 3 pairs of Boombah over the past few years ... All 3 pairs suffered sole separation in a relatively short period of time ... Boombah has offered to waive shipping costs on my next pair ... There won't be a "next pair". |
Sept. 8, 2016 yellowjacket95 Men's 55 36 posts | Agreed #19. There won't be a next pair! Like I said above, I picked up a pair of Adidas Vigor Bounce Trail Runners (grey/onix/blue) at the last tourney for $70. Same shoe is various colors is on Amazon for $61. Definitely better constructed show and far more comfortable! |
Sept. 8, 2016 Trotter25 34 posts | Well weve been working closely with Adidas and have come out with about 4 different shoes for all different types of feet & needs. Adidas Bounce has a side saddle lace system to give you added suport. Trail shoe & running shoe weve adopted for the softball field. Power Alley Quag is like the (Reebok Zig Quag) very light and durable in all 5 team colors. Turf Hog shoes are a Midtop that has some similar things that Tanel offered. Great turf shoe. Speed Trainer Turfs (Wide Shoe) is used by Adidas coaches on the field. Very comfortable and lightweight. All of these shoes will be on display at Vegas. Were very excited about providing a comfortable and durable shoes. Look forward to seeing you in Vegas! Thanks, Lee Trotter Suncoast Team - Adidas suncoastteam@yhoo.com |
Sept. 13, 2016 Homer Simpson Men's 55 27 posts | Thanks, everyone. I need molded spikes since the turfs are slippery once the grass is wet or has morning dew. I'm an outfielder. Where is the best place to look for the Adidas shoes? I will be in Ft. Meyers, but not Vegas. |
Sept. 14, 2016 Trotter25 34 posts | We'll have all of our different styles that have been player tested at the Adidas tent in Vegas and at Ft Myers Winter National tournament. Looking forward to seeing you at the fields. Thanks, Lee Trotter Suncoast Team www.suncoastteam@yahoo.com |
Sept. 15, 2016 lb16 Men's 60 196 posts | Turf shoes work better in wet grass than you may think. Almost everyone I have played with in the last 15 years basically all wear turfs. This includes playing with the young guys up until about 3 years ago. I have personally been wearing turfs for over 20 years now. Played in a tournament on turf infields were you couldn't run the bases in cleats was the 1st tourney my feet didn't ache after the tourney I have worn turfs every since!! Do your feet a favor and switch to turfs!! |
Sept. 15, 2016 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | lb16, I had a similar experience to yours recently. I was playing at a BLD park with artificial turf infields and grass outfields. It's always a hassle what to wear since I both pitch and play outfield. I pitched a game and had on turf cleats (my beloved Tanels that wear like iron) so I was both comfortable and a shade faster running the bases. In the next game, at the last minute, I was switched from DH to outfield and had to run out in my turf shoes. To my surprise, I still had good traction and so I kept the turf cleats on the rest of the day no matter what position I was playing. Now you've got me thinking that maybe I should wear my turf cleats all the time. If only Tanel hadn't stopped making them. I saw that coming and bought three boxes, but some day I'll need a new pair by another maker. My only question: do turf cleats really work well in tall grass (poor maintenance by financially strapped city crews is common in California) and on wet grass (not usually a problem here)? Seems illogical, but maybe I am missing something. |
Sept. 16, 2016 lb16 Men's 60 196 posts | Omar,From my experience yes! But like I try to tell anyone that will listen don't skimp when getting shoes IMO never were boombahs or any other inexpensive shoe, they don't hold-up well and are hard on your feet not much support. As the old saying goes you get what you pay for. Go with a name brand such as Nike, Adidas, New Balance etc. Your feet will thank you!! |
Feb. 1, 2017 Wayne 37 Men's 65 773 posts | Homer Simpson, Get on the adidas website. You can design your own molded cleats. I did and the shoes are very comfortable. Lots of padding and bounce in the shoe. Wet fields won't hurt them either as they wipe right off. |
Feb. 3, 2017 tscs000 Men's 60 33 posts | If you want the best turfs money can buy, look into getting Salomon Speedcross 3s or 4s. Trust me, your feet will thank you!! |
Feb. 3, 2017 southerinman Men's 50 52 posts | I am looking for a set of Turfs in high top if possible or mids at least. Any suggestions? |
Feb. 4, 2017 stick8 1991 posts | Not sure if it's still true but last year I saw Adidas turf shoes at Meijers. They had them in black and another multicolor combination. Cost was $82 |
Feb. 4, 2017 Wayne 37 Men's 65 773 posts | southerninman, I have a pair of Nike molded cleats that are high top. The Bill Buckner specials. They are size 10. If you want them let me know and I will send them to you free of charge. They are used and I liked them very much, but when the turf shoes came out, I switched to those. The only thing I've seen are mids in turf shoes. |
Feb. 4, 2017 southerinman Men's 50 52 posts | Wayne I appreciate the offer but due to some feet problems I have to stay with turfs and like you I can only find mids. |
Feb. 5, 2017 Tri18 352 posts | I have had very good luck in the pat year with Mizuno new Erupt turfs. They come in low and 3/4 versions and are so supportive and comfortable that they feel like a high quality pair of running shoes. Additionally, they are water resistant which helps us ballplayers a lot in those situations where we play on wet fields. The other thing I like is the tire cleats themselves are slightly longer than most and the include 9 cleats hidden amongst them. This allows this shoe to be worn in the infield or the outfield and they perform well in both situations. If you need more info get with me. Alan Tanner Team 1 Sports 561-718-7504 |
April 25, 2017 k man Men's 65 322 posts | Homer, just finished 1st use of a shoe you might like. I played outfield, grass a bit slick in the a.m Adidas Turf Hog, not a molded cleat. When I was searching, I think they actually list them as football. Great traction. Search web. Got them for $60. |
May 10, 2017 Tri18 352 posts | Hi Guys, Due to a lot of response and questions especially about wide width cleats and turf shoes I did some homework and got in touch with New Balance. They have totally redone their line and after trying out their cleats I can see why ALOT OF MLB players are wearing New Balance. They stock EE widths in turf shoes and molded cleats and their turf shoes come in a variety of colors but feature the legendary great support New Balance is known for. They retail for around $79 and are well worth it. I wanted to wait for feedback from multiple players before I posted anything and I now have about 50 pairs out on the field across the country and I'm getting nothing but good reviews. The cushioning is very good and a pair of size 11 only weigh about 1.5 pounds. All in all another great option. Don't make the mistake of buying cheap shoes....they are either going to be non supportive, bother your feet, or wear out quickly. Invest in a good pair of turfs as we are all in them a lot when we play. If you have questions or need further information you can call me anytime. Alan Tanner Team 1 Sports 561-718-7504 |

May 28, 2017 Wayne 37 Men's 65 773 posts | As far as the New Balance turf cleats go, they work good, but insoles in them don't last long, as I had to replace them with better ones. Not expensive and really a more comfortable upgrade in the padding department though. |
May 30, 2017 Bigcat55 10 posts | I have to second the Solomon's. After a teammate recommended them to me late last year. I won't wear anything else. As a big guy that pitches, the soreness during and after tourneys is nearly gone. Even picked up a pair for everyday use. I can't speak to traction in grass but most of my teammates have switched as well. For love of the game. |
