Scoring of runs
Please clarify Rule 5.7 if you would, based on the following.

Runner on 1st & 3rd with 1 out. Batter hits to short-stop a grounder who toss to 2nd base for the 2nd out. Base runner on 3rd base goes home and touches the plate before the double play is completed with the throw to 1st base. (2nd baseman fumbled ball a bit and runner to 1st was slow.) The double play was completed for the 3rd out.

Question: Does the runner from 3rd score a run or not. Explain if you would in clear language.

NO RUN SCORES ... Very simple rule: The run does NOT count ANY time the last out of the inning is by a force out ... The force at first was accomplished by the completion of the double play, no matter how slowly ... This is NOT a timing play ...

UNRELATED: The runner from 3rd is OUT if (s)he touches the plate as mentioned in your hypothetical ... If you meant "scoring plate" or "scoring line", then the answer remains as above ...

whenever there is a situation where the runner/runners are FORCED to advance as in the double play you described.....no run would score.... different scenario... bases are loaded 1 out and ball is hit to ss who throws to second for the 2nd out but now the 2nd baseman throws to 3rd and the runner stops... the 3rd baseman runs hin down and tags him for the 3rd out because this was not a force out, if the runner on 3rd passed the scoring line / plate before the tag at 3rd the run would score....this is a timing play hope this helps
