TX STATE CHAMPIONSHIP-
As some folks may have noticed the TX STATE CHAMPIONSHIP POST has been removed by SSUSA Staff. For those of us who have been classified as "Snarky Commentators" that is one of deadly sins that will get your post(s) removed.
So much for our 1st amendment right.
Capt Kirk
Note: Snarky, A witty mannerism, personality, or behavior that is a combination of sarcasm and cynicism. Usually accepted as a complimentary term. Snark is sometimes mistaken for a snotty or arrogant attitude.
Her snarky remarks had half the room on the floor laughing and the other half ready to walk out.

Capt Kirk • Yep, we appropriately removed the entire thread ... At one time or another, posts therein violated three of the (only) four posting rules we have: disparaging remarks, unacceptable language and promotion of competing association's events ... We allow an incredible amount of (occasionally fair) criticism in our "home", this message board, from the "anonymous-keyboard-courage" posters ... You are a member of that group ...

All posters, are granted a revocable privilege to post here, but our rights as the owner of this private forum to regulate it by removing objectionable content is not somehow subordinate to any 1st Amendment rights in public you may assert ... This is our home ... We reserve to right to determine what comprises acceptable behavior in our home ... Sometimes, the compulsion to type things here that most reasonable people would NEVER say face-to-face crosses the line ... You were "that guy" over the line ... We welcome any future responsible commentary you may wish to add ...

P.S. - The hilarious "snarky" characterization came from another of your anonymous-keyboard-courage crew (Axemansa), not us, so we can't take credit (or blame) for it! ...

I am the Message Board Moderator and the "SSUSA Staff" person for at least 95% of our posts under that username ... You may well be the very last frequent poster here to acquire that tidbit of knowledge ... And we know who you are, but we won't "out" you so long as you choose to wear the cloak of anonymity ... Post responsibly ...

Dave,
I made an observation about the tone of the SSUSA responses and you were obviously offended.

I don't consider myself part of what you claim is the "anonymous keyboard courage" posters. My name is Jerry Stotts and I play with Tex Vets. As you might ascertain, I am a vet and I value and defend the free speech and your rights to limit them on your "home". I personnaly don't understand why you called me out in the previous comment but again that is your right. BTW, I am not part of any crew. I speak for myself and I'll take the credit for the "hilarious" comment.

Cheers,
Jerry

Thanks, Jerry ... I very much appreciate your candor ... We, too, believe in free speech, so long as it's responsible and maintains proper decorum consistent with the posting rules for our "home" ... Thank you for your service and good luck this year ... DAVE

If you insist on loosely plagiarizing Alexander Pope, at least extend him the common decency of attribution.

Dave,

My name is Al Schoelen. I contributed to that last tread that was taken down. I think some of the talk would have been quashed if you would have explained why the venue was changed. Many teams I have spoken with in East/Central Texas get the impression they are not important enough to get major tournaments in this area. Although we didn't always like the fields, it was the one major venue that was easily affordable for most. We cannot afford to go to Sacramento to play in the Western Championships. We tried it one time and it just plain cost too much for us to consider it again. These are things that that should be looked at and given a response. SSUSA does many good things regarding the rules and lineup requirements which are much better than other organizations. However, I need not tell you, that the baby boomers will some day be gone. They are the largest part of this group. I umpire for a different organization and have seen a decrease in the number of teams and players from these younger guys. In order to attract teams, many leagues and tournaments no longer require even like uniforms or numbers (Which I hate). This looks terrible. Keep in mind that a balance is needed. I know that you will never please everyone, you just have to keep most happy throughout the entire country.

Al, the initial topic thread was removed for cause, and we regret that your commentary did not survive the removal ...

I had the tremendous honor to travel to San Antonio on Saturday, representing SSUSA, to give the keynote address at the 30th Anniversary Banquet of the San Antonio Seniors Softball League ... In what came as no surprise, the Texas State Championships were an item of interest to their membership and I commented candidly and fully about it ... Here's the short version: It takes a combination of civic support, ample tournament quality fields and local senior softball people pushing to make it a reality for being named the host city for any major TOC Qualifier event ... We also made inquiries and negotiated directly with multiple Texas venues in an attempt to get that combination at the appropriate time on the tournament annual calendar, which is mid to late June for the Texas State ...

With that as the process, the following cities in Texas received "Request for Proposal" packages to serve as the host city for the 2017 Texas State Championships • Austin, Dallas/Ft. Worth, El Paso, Houston and San Antonio ... Only ONE city in Texas responded to that RFP, making the selection and negotiation process quite simple • El Paso ... They were able to put together everything that's important for a successful event ... While we recognize that you are personally disappointed in the location, but should you choose to participate, we would be very surprised if you weren't pleased with the event and facilities as being worthy of the Texas State Championships ... We will repeat this process for 2018, so maybe suggesting to, or helping, the appropriate people in your area might result in a location you like better ... We aren't looking for a permanent home for the Texas State Championships, but we do seek the best fit, on an annual basis, for the event ... This year, that location is El Paso ... Thank you for your commentary ...

Dave,

Thank you for replying. I don't know what cities in the Dallas/Ft Worth got sent information, but Dallas itself doesn't have much. However, several of the suburbs of Dallas have some nice fields especially Garland and Plano. Plano has had some bad taste with senior softball due to another senior organization. The right person could make this a prime venue again. I know it is too late for this year, but sending information out early enough to the cities I listed might get the response you need, Again, thank you for letting me know the situation. I will pass it on.
