March 5, 2007 STONEMAN Men's 50 535 posts | LET'S REALLY GET STUPID! SENIORS: I am sure that many players, know teams & players that will 'FALSLY' accursed another player of using an ILLEGAL or ALTERED BAT. This is done to slow the game down , chap a player off, get into ones 'head', or get a players bat out of the game. WELL, what if, anything will The SUMMIT, do? Have the MGR, banned for the TOURNAMENT? the YR? 5 YRS? HOW, about the player that states that they (he or she), thinks that a certain bat is ILLEGAL or ALTERED? What will The SUMMIT do? FIRST TIME--- a warning? SECOND TIME--- a yr? & so on. THE SKY is FALLING.... RUN...The STONEMAN... I am hav' a BAD HAIR DAY......... HO--HO |
March 5, 2007 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hey Stoneman, What did you hear? What's the whole of it? Where can we go to get a print out of what the new rules are? But, the fact that someone is moving in a definitive manner in the direction of much tougher sanctions for illegal/altered bats has got to be a plus. We do have to start somewhere and the bolder the better. Also, I learned last year that liability/accountability issues dictate there must be a way to "seize" the bat and ball in question for the sake of the guy who got hurt or else he will have no recourse for compensation if he gets seriously injured by illegal equipment. Fundamentally, I like the "Shock and Awe" approach regarding illegal/altered bats. The Bigger the Bang at the beginning the better to get us ALL moving in the right direction. |
March 5, 2007 STONEMAN Men's 50 535 posts | EINSTEIN: I do have some 'friends' that were @ The SUMMIT. The minutes from The SUMMIT, will be com' out w/ in a few days (maybe)! 10 yrs, if, one does not give up their bat 4 test'. 5 yrs, if, ones bat is found to be ILLEGAL-ALTERED. The MGR, will also, be BANNED, & I believe the MGR, will get 1 yr. INJURY TRIGGER FACTOR--I.T.F. If, a BATTED BALL injuries a play, the players bat will be sent in 4 test'; 2-3 wks. The BALL, that was hit, I am not sure if, that ball will also, be sent in 4 test'. JOE, THIS IS VERY BAD. An UMP or TD, can have u're bat taken away, 4 test'. Too much tape.... too lil' tape..... 4 hav' a KNOB CONE..... a sticker on ones bat, that enables players to find their bat..... ETC... ETC... Where will this madness lead to & stop? Ones bats feels too much End Loaded? Because we have cheats..... let's act as if, all SENIORS r cheats? THE REAL PROBLEM....... is that the SOFTBALL ORGANIZ'S, will not listen to SGMA. Safer Balls & stop the use of 26, 27, & 28 oz bats. Lite Bats, allow rec players to have the BAT SPEED of 'A' ballplayers, but, NO BAT CONTROL......... The rights of one person, out weighs the rights of the MAJORITY. Joe, think about that Legal Premonition. (Yes, i did use a bid word.) I did, I did. The STONEMAN............................OUT |
March 6, 2007 CRUSADERVB Men's 70 275 posts | STEVE.....THE ITF RULE JUST PLAN SUCKS!! 2 YRS AGO I WAS PLAYING WITH THE NY STATESMEN IN DES MOINE, THE BATTED BALL TOOK A BAD HOP, HIT ME IN THE SHIN, CAUSING A HEMATOMA, THEN SURGERY AND 4 MONTHS ON A WOUND VAC. WITH THE ITF RULE THE BATTER WOULD HAVE TO GIVE UP HIS BAT!! ALL IT WAS, WAS A BAD HOP!! |
March 6, 2007 E. Ness 122 posts | Who gets banned for 5 years if the ball is found to be illegal? The TD? The head of the association? The ball Company? Does this fall on the player also? Too many bad things can come from this new rule and Stoneman is right how about those teams and players that only want to get a good players bat out of the game or just slow down the game? Shouldn't they be punished. I am all for cleaning up the game and getting rid of the illegal bats but this is way over the top. One last thought. How about the one guy who has money and is swing a legal bat but accussed of using an illegal bat. He gives the bat up in front of the whole softball world and for the next 2-3 weeks is dubbed a cheater (actually the rest of his playing career as is the manager. Some people do not know how to let things go). The bat comes back and found to be legal. Who will step forward and admit they were wrong about the bat and the player? My guess is no one . So our man with money files a law suit to get his named cleared. Who wins then? |
March 6, 2007 bert55 Men's 60 24 posts | This is a crazy rule. Is the bat taken if the defender is grazed, hit in the body or head, or the hit results in blood? Is the bat taken if the defender stays in the game? How does poor field maintenace play into this? I hope this rule does not exist. |
March 6, 2007 Longball12 23 posts | You wanna protest a bat it should cost the protester or the team $300.00 to $500.00. If the protest lasts more then 3 minutes during a game, the protesting team forfiets the inning their in, and the team thats getting protested gets an automatic 5 runs for the lost inning. Every 3 minutes past the original 3 minutes the protesting team loses another inning and 5 runs That will take the delay factor out of it. Remember, your innocent till proven guilty!!!!!!!! JUST MY $00.02 CENTS WORTH!!!!!! |
March 6, 2007 DesertGuy Men's 60 224 posts | I've been watching this issue of altered bats consume this board for a long time now. And I agree with einstein's comments above. Everyone has been saying that the penalties are too soft so far. So, the Summit puts some real teeth in it. I have no problem with a 10 yr. ban for a player that refuses to give up his bat for inspection. And I have no problem with the manager being on the hook too. Managers benefit when an illegal bat is used. Managers should know when batting performance is too good, or when 9 of 14 batters are using the same bat. I don't use altered bats. I won't play with anyone that does. I'm all for what einstein called the "Shock and Awe" approach. The penalties for the very few guilty players need to be stong enough to send a message that you are done if you get caught. Add my 2 cents to Longball12. If we get enough in 2 cent chunks, maybe we can by a testing machine. |
March 6, 2007 DesertGuy Men's 60 224 posts | Gary - That idea would fit with the topic of LET'S REALLY GET STUPID. I have no issue with putting the Manager on the hook. He's supposedly in charge. An honorable Manager can, and should, make his own bat inspection a part of his normal pregame routine. It should be just another of his responsibilities that come with the job. Teams don't cheat - individuals do. And thankfully it's a small number of them. I guess I'm just all for anything that adds pressure to solve this issue instead of letting anyone, including a Manager, say later that he had no idea what was happening. If you think about it, most Managers seem to think they know everything. Why not make them include what bats their players are using as part of "everything"? |
