Bordering States - Illinois / Michigan
To Staff,

If Iowa is considered a bordering state to Illinois separated by a River, why isn't Michigan considered a bordering state separated by a lake? Just trying to understand why an Illinois team can have players from Iowa on but not from Michigan.

Thanks,

Because a "lake" and a "river" are different border items as we define the states and bordering states rules ... We suspect you (or someone you know) and a member of our National Director group had this discussion yesterday on the phone ... Our interpretation has not changed overnight: Michigan and Illinois are NOT bordering states for purposes of SSUSA player eligibility ... The SSUSA National Rules Committee meets only once per year to consider potential changes at the SSUSA National Convention in late-November / early-December ... You are welcome to submit (in writing outside of this Message Board) suggestions for potential Agenda inclusion later this year ...

BH21....I would think that the answer to your question is that you can walk/drive over the river from illinois to iowa...but you can walk/drive over to michigan, right?? There you go, that's why michigan isn't bordering with illinois.

To SSUSA Staff,

Have no idea what you are talking about, just asked a question thought that is what you do on this board. Me nor anybody that I know had a discussion with anyone about this subject. First year running a team didn't know why thought I would ask. Nice response by staff - I guess I won't ask any questions.

BH21 ... Please accept our apology for a faulty assumption that led to an inappropriate response ... After not hearing about this particular fact pattern for a long time, we got a contentious phone call and your post within about 15 hours of each other with an identical fact pattern involving just these two states ... Our faulty presumption that they originated from the same person was regrettable ... Please continue to ask questions and express opinions ...

Webbie25 ... The "lakes vs. rivers" policy is applied to the Continental 48 states only ... Due to smaller player populations, Alaska, Hawaii and Guam have different policy criteria ... Alaska was recently linked with Western Canada and many of the smaller northeast states were merged to address the same population issue by the National Rules Committee ...
