March 3, 2017 uk1 6 posts | Shoulder replacement I had a total shoulder replacement 5 weeks ago. It had to be the reverse type because of all the damage to the rotator tendons. three were snapped and one was barely attached. The good thing is that they did not have to reattach my bicep muscle. I am totally pain free after living in pain for 10 years. I may or may not be able to play softball again, but just to be totally pain free is worth what I went through. Before the surgery I could not raise my arm up parallel to my shoulder and now I can raise it straight up. I just wanted to share this to anyone that is thinking about having the surgery. I would do it again in a heartbeat. |

Just the fact you can reach over your head without pain is what I want. I am in the same situation as you were and have been contemplating the reverse shoulder. Good to hear you success. |
March 9, 2017 uk1 6 posts | paul0784, my doctor told me that throwing overhand may be an issue because with the reverse procedure that is where the most weakness will be noticed. I think if more people would check into this sooner, they would have a much better chance of playing sports. I am totally pain free. I have done all of the rehab and they tell me I am2 to 3 weeks ahead of the curve on my recovery. They increase my weight and tension strap every week and I have no trouble doing the rehab. I couldn't shoot a foul shot in basketball before the surgery and now I can. I can raise my arm straight up and let it bend backwards without pain. That makes it all worth it to me. I did have a doctor that specializes in shoulders only and is a sports trainer. Good luck with your shoulder. |
March 20, 2017 paul0784 Men's 60 218 posts | Thanks uk1. I had rotator cuff surgery 3/14/16 and have more pain and less range than I had before the surgery. I also had a shoulder guy and have no idea what is happening. He was able to fix three of the four tendons. I have an appointment Wed to ask what my options are because the pain is substantial. Hopefully we can come up with something? |
