Release from a team
Anyone know if SSUSA requires a coach or manager to call them and get a release for a player who wants to move to a different team?

rr3 , under the heading TOURNAMENTS is a subtitle FORMS.
In the forms is a PLAYER RELEASE FORM that has to be filled out completely and submitted.
I'm guessing that's what you are looking for and if I am not mistaken a player can only switch teams once in a 'SSUSA' year.

Does playing for a team in Winter worlds or nationals count, then playing for another starting in 2017 count as your one move???

JB, the SSUSA year starts with the Winter worlds and Nationals in November, SSUSA lists them as 2017 events even though they are in 2016, so I would say you are correct that in order to play with a different team in a 2017 event ( before November 2018) you would need a release. That also assumes you are staying within the same 5 year age group. That's the way I understand it so SSUSA Staff can verify.

rr3 ... The PLAYER must get the MANAGER sign the form K man referenced above and either of them can send it to SSUSA, or the MANAGER may send us an email releasing the player ... Players may get only ONE release per Season in a single age group .. Each SSUSA Season commences with the Winter National's (Ft. Myers/Naples) and the Winter World's (Phoenix) and ends at the conclusion of the World Masters Championships (Las Vegas) ...

WHAT IF...the manager of the team, in which a player is qualified on is reluctant or unwilling to release a player (due to personal conflict)? Is there a protocol to follow knowing the manager is just being obstinate? What can a player do? Often this is reason players are reluctant to play in the qualifying winter event to avoid this potential issue?

SSUSA will occasionally attempt to mediate a mutually acceptable resolution of the release request, but will NOT serve as an arbitrator to compel or reject a release ... The principal reason for our approach is that in almost all cases, there are THREE sides to the facts of the issue: [1] Player's version; [2] Manager's version; and [3] The TRUTH somewhere between the two prior options ...

See also: Rulebook §4.2(2)E on page 23 at NOTE: Player release is at the sole discretion of the team manager. SSUSA does not arbitrate, nor compel, a player’s release in the event of a dispute.
