Vero Spring Training recap
Just returned from what I felt was the best camp that we have ever been able to run. With the addition of personal video spots, a coaching, hitting at to self adjust, and our Under Construction area our campers got ALOT of tools to help them become better players. I saw a huge amount of skill gains from a vast majority of our players and I will tell you this..... My staff and myself had as much fun coaching as they did playing and learning. We are blessed to have each player there and I think they enjoyed themselves a lot even when they were in the "penalty phase" 😉 You can find out about that if you attend one of our camps. I have already been asked about a fall edition and am considering dates in November for that now. If you have an interest in attending then please get with me now to reserve a spot. We keep numbers limited so we can give personalized instruction.

Thank you Alan for a very informative two and a half days of learning the game of softball, not only the hitting aspect of the game but also fielding. Definitely a good work out.I thoroughly enjoyed the last day that Bob O'Brien spoke to us. I wished that I had videoed the entire time Bob was explaining the fundamentals of hitting and the strengthening tips.Alan you asked us if we could think of something that might make the experience better.I would suggest a full day of our last day that we had with Bob on the first day or second day with all of us working with the soft toss for hand eye coordination or better yet add a day to the camp. All in all I had a great time.Oh yea , my wife gave me permission to come back in 2020.

This was my first time ever attending anything like this and I just have to say, WOW. It was such an honor to have shared the field with so many seasoned athletes. What a great coaching staff with so much knowledge shared in just 2 1/2 days. Thank you coaches Alan, Roger, Bob, Jeff and Carlos. Definitely would like to have had the opportunity to go through the different soft toss techniques. Hoping there will be another one in the fall, but if not, hope to see everyone again next February. In the meantime, I will watch the videos and apply what I've learned and try to make everyone proud.

How can I get information about the next session? Is there a west coast option? I live in Las Vegas, but would go east if needed.

Jon,
We will most likely have a fall edition in Vero Beach in November sometime as we are working on dates now. If your league or municipality is interested in having us bring our camp to your area we can customize it for a 1,2, or 3 day camp. Anyone can call me at 561-718-7504 to discuss logistics and plan for your event.

You know, I figure almost everyone is self-taught when it comes to slo-pitch. Most of us played some baseball as a kid, and then as an adult found our way into slo-pitch. And have NEVER had any serious instruction or coaching, other than relying on what Dad taught us as a kid, or what we pick up from adult team mates. I played for 30 years like that, a decent player, but frustrated that I couldn't get better. Then 2 years ago I got the idea that maybe there was someone somewhere who was a PRO and could maybe HELP me get better.

Thank goodness I stumbled upon Alan's camp in Vero! I'd been away from the game, living overseas for 10 years, came back and had a batting average of .474 the first year. Ugh. I attended Alan's camp, and the next summer hit .585, over 100 points higher. Why? Certainly because of new things I tried. But a lot of it was just the CONFIDENCE I gained that I knew I was doing things right because an expert had confirmed it. It was the best $250 I ever spent - the chance to escape the Canadian winter for a while and play ball among the palm trees AND gain all this knowledge and have the evaluation of a professional. Priceless!

Alan's right. This year was even a big improvement over last year, because of the personal swing evaluations by video, and a coach standing right behind you making notes for you to take home. Brilliant! I thought I'd end up just hearing the same talks again, but NO! I heard all sorts of new ideas, like the soft-toss hitting into the net. I've been telling all my buddies up here that I could come back for the next five years (which I will), and I still won't have learned it all. Congrats, Alan, on the constant improvement and keeping it fresh. And Bob, I'm going to thank you in advance for all the extra line drives I'm going to be hitting in a few weeks when the snow melts using my new-and-improved knuckles-aligned, elbows down grip and stance! See you all next spring!

BTW, in addition to what I wrote above, I'll just echo Jon44's call for a 'Vero Beach West' Camp in Arizona/SoCal/Nevada/Utah. Just think how far Alan can teach us to hit the ball without all that Florida humidity slowing it down!

I'm finally back home in Virginia Beach, completing a trip that began with Spring Training in Vero Beach and ended with a tournament in Myrtle Beach, where I was able to put into action what I learned from Alan, Bob, Roger and Jeff. And I must say, I did feel more confident at the plate, especially because I went to the plate each time with a better mental approach. I wound up hitting .667 for the tournament and even had a couple hits to RCF or RF. And I taught one of our pitchers Bob's curve, which he used to get out of a jam in one of our Saturday games. I want to thank Alan and his teammates for a fantastic 2.5 days. The instruction was exceptional, the camaraderie was fun, and the entire experience (including dinner Saturday evening where I enjoyed a very pleasant evening with Roger and his wife Wendy) was something I will long remember and value. I hope to see all of you again at the next Spring Training.
