March 18, 2017 stick8 1991 posts | What is the only situation where, after the play is over that a "do over" or "mulligan" can be implemented? (at least that I'm aware of) Any guesses? ( I admit up front I didn't know when I was asked and I'm not sure if it applies in senior ball) |
March 18, 2017 DaveDowell Men's 70 4296 posts | Certainly not discussed in the SSUSA Rulebook, but here's a wild guess (confidence level about 35%) that may constitute a "do-over" ... If an illegal player on defense is involved in a play, and the infraction is discovered by an umpire or either team prior to the first pitch to the next batter of either team, the team on offense has the option to let the play stand or to allow the batter to bat again. |

March 18, 2017 B.J. 1104 posts | i think Dave has it....but on the outfielder in SSUSA with a 1st basemans mitt that makes a fly ball catch I thought that after the catch and appealed by the offense that the catch was ruled illegal the batter was awarded 1st base and it went as an error in scoring?? |
March 18, 2017 Garocket Men's 55 259 posts | You are correct BJ in Senior Softball I looked it up and it says only catcher can wear a mitt. Not sure about the penalty. The old ASA was the Offense had the option of taking the play or the batter getting to bat again. |
March 19, 2017 curty Men's 60 187 posts | actually happened @ World tourney: bases loaded, no outs, bottom of 6. Pitcher throw's "fake " pitch, umpire- extremely agitaed, warns him that he will be removed if he does it again. Pitcher delivers, batter hits ball over right fielders head for base clearing triple and then throw goes out of play. Instead of awarding home to batter, ump VERY agitated now calls no pitch, do over, as he wasn't ready!! This was in the "if" game @ Las Vegas, that team lost the finals by 1 run! I was there! |
March 20, 2017 stick8 1991 posts | All interesting scenarios!! The one I was told was for coed. If a girl hits a guy's ball by mistake (or vice versa) they can take the result of the at bat or a do over. That being said I've never heard of any senior coed softball anywhere. Does anyone know if there is? |
March 20, 2017 coop3636 514 posts | This ISN'T in any rulebook, but it happened.. There was an illegal substitution and was told to the umpire after the batter makes and out to that illegal player. The umps didn't know the rule, the UIC didn't know the rules, so after 30 minutes or arguing, the other coach and I just decided to have a "do over" and the umps let us. (we still laugh about it) Our guy got a hit. 2nd time in my life the umps let us have a do over because they didn't know the rules.. Always interesting out on the softball fields have a great day Coop3636 |
March 21, 2017 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | We had a "Do Over" Sunday. The pitch hits square in the middle of the mat, umpire calls ball. After our catch, pitcher and a couple more that were in out dugout complained the umpire calls No Pitch. In essence it was a "Do Over". |
March 22, 2017 marcster13 102 posts | There was a game do over this past weekend in Palm Springs 40's. Won't go into all the details but have never seen anything like it. In the first inning a team has two players ejected and then the game was called as a forfeit. Teams are packing up, some already away from the field, umpire gets shoved by at least two players..... Here is the do over. After at least 20 min of more drama the game is to be played with the original umpire gone and the first player that was ejected was reinstated into the game. |
March 22, 2017 stick8 1991 posts | Marcster13 was this a SSUSA sanctioned event? I'd be curious to know the justification for the game being played over after it was declared a forfeit and the umpire being shoved by 2 players--with one of players being allowed to play!! Putting my umpire cap on this sets a dangerous precedent, especially shoving an umpire. |
March 22, 2017 marcster13 102 posts | Stick8- Yes it was a sanctioned SSUSA event. |
