March 21, 2017 softball4b Men's 70 1248 posts | I had knee drained and cortisone shot every 90 days then TKR in November. I put it off only because of work commitments now that I have had it done, my quality of life has improved significantly. |
March 21, 2017 southpaw Men's 70 1077 posts | For the past several years, I have been getting cortisone shots in my left knee. The next to the last time, I had a mild reaction and did not sleep for a day or so. 6 months later, I did not sleep for 3 days! So, no more for me. Please be careful. |

March 25, 2017 ocden 35 posts | Doctors told me you shouldn't have cortisone to much, it weakens the tendons the more you have them! Also remember every time you go under the knife with anesthesia if effects your whole body as well as your brain (dementia)! I have been putting off knee replacement for several yrs till finally i have to have it. I've run out of temporary fixes! |

For me it was when the pain would not allow me to get a full nights sleep. After the replacement the pain is gone but clearly I cannot run as well as before. Overall the replacement was the right answer for me. I just saw on the news the other night that the medical field has developed a synthetic replacement for joint cartilage. It is being used in the US for feet but is now being used in Europe for knees! I wondered when this might finally happen. I would certainly ask my doctor about that option in the future. Although surgeons won't be too excited about not doing the big operation. Good luck. |
March 26, 2017 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | In 2013 I did the same thing-I wanted to make it 'one more year'. It was a nightmare. I was in constant pain, took way too many pain killers and really didn't help my team at all. I even got to the point in worlds that I took so many pills I got disoriented and combative. No good at all. It is so easy to say 'just a couple more tournaments'. IT IS NOT WORTH IT-get it done and you will be much happier, and so many of my friends, including Softball4b are telling me the recovery time is so much shorter now. And NO PAIN! |
