Spring World Championships in Mesquite
Played in the Spring Worlds in Mesquite. Great Tournament. Good competition and for the most part weather was outstanding. Congratulations to D&K on winning the 55 Major. You guys are an excellent team.
I do have a question for SSUSA though. Why would you put the 55 & 60 Major winners bracket final games on the baseball field and not the two softball fields? It seems you would reward teams for winning and not punish them by making them play on the worst field possible. If we had lost I would have no problem having to play there. At the very least put up a temporary fence. Playing important games on that field just makes no sense.

FOFO ... I presume you're talking about the 55-Major only, since the 60-Major played all of their Sunday games on Field #1 at Hunter Park ... The field assignments on Championship Sunday (or Thursday) are completely by design ... The Elimination Bracket is structured for single-file on the championship field except for maybe the 8:00 AM games if there are two ... This prevents having a team bouncing back and forth during what is potentially a very long day for the Elimination Bracket Sunday survivors ... It's like "sand-lot" ball; as long as you win, you can keep the field ...

The Winner's bracket final is almost always on an adjacent field, and with #1 and #2 at Hunter Park already committed, that left #3 ... As for "rewarding" teams for winning, they already have that ... The loser of the Winner's Bracket final has the reward of NOT being eliminated from the tournament by a loss, which is NOT the case for Elimination Bracket teams ... Field conditions were the same for both teams on Field #3, and temporary fencing at Hunter Park isn't allowed because of the artificial turf prohibits us sinking posts or spikes for it ... This schedule structure is unlikely to change anytime soon ...

Bert, I agree. Way to much ground to cover in the outfield for "senior" players.

I consider Field 3 (Baseball Field) at Hunter Park a "Very Dangerous Field". With the wrinkles on the Artificial Turf, the Berms on the Infield caused by sand/dirt at the edges of the Infield Cutouts it is the worst Field in Mesquite, and probably west of the Mississippi. A few years back I was lucky I did not have my arm broken when a hard hit ground ball took a bad bounce off of the Infield Berm. Fortunately if glanced off of my arm and became a Fly Ball in left Field! I understand the need to maximize Field usage to get all the games in. But in my humble opinion the safety of our players should be paramount and this particular Field should be eliminated from play. Yes I am fully aware that "Bad Bounces" happen. I accept the inevitable. But to exacerbate the situation by putting us on what is obviously a field that is defective thereby creating a stronger possibility of injury I submit it just isn't worth the risk. If the powers that be can maintain the Field to overcome said above defects using the Field despite the Infield Artificial Turf the Pitching Mound on the Infield and the "Outsized Outfield" we just have to deal with it so as to keep the Games played on a reasonable schedule.

Staff, thanks for the response but it doesn't fly as far as I am concerned. We earned the right to not be eliminated by winning and not losing. There was no reward. Any team would much rather bounce back and forth between fields than chase down balls 400 feet at the fence. As for a temporary fence there are types of fences that don't require the drilling of holes. I also realize that like a lot of bad decisions SSUSA makes it it unlikely to change soon. You guys are pretty stubborn and resistant to change. Happens when you get old.
Guess it doesn't matter, we will keep coming because we Kline to play ball.

FOFO .. I guess with all of the bad decisions we make, being so stubborn and resistant to change and getting so darn old, you maybe should have planned ahead to pick which game to tank late Saturday so you could get over on Field #2 for Sunday instead of relying on us to do it for you ... You got that right Dave but we are also old and make bad decisions so nobody thought that far ahead. We played poorly enough to tank a few but teams kept letting us win. Now I realize why! Oh well it's all good and we will lace them up again in Vegas. BTW: You are killing me.

Just finished the weekend Spring Worlds in St. George at the Canyons Complex. One of the most beautiful complexes I have ever seen or played on. Don Reddigg, as usual did a fantastic job as did KC and his umpiring staff. We always enjoy coming up there to play ball and Don runs a fantastic tournament. I just wanted to say that all of the 50 Major teams that we played against all had class and sportsmanship above and beyond and we enjoyed the weekend very much! It is always fun to travel to play ball and even more fun when you are playing against great players with great attitudes. Thanks again SSUSA, Don, his wife, and KC for running a great tourney...Bert, Coach, 4TF!

I would like to put my 2 cents out there NOT to use Field 3 at Pioneer Park in the future. With the distances down the lines, the outfield becomes greatly expanded and becomes very hard to cover. Balls that would normally be doubles on a 300' field turned into triples and inside the park home runs. I understand that it is the same for both teams but a team with an extremely fast outfield has a decisive advantage over a team with a slower outfield that might do just fine in a regulation softball field. Thanks for listening!

Bruce303 ... We'll look at the Field #3 situation for both Hunter and Pioneer Parks next year ... The easy solution is simply to schedule evening/night games at say, 6:30, 8:00 and maybe even 9:30 PM, on the other two fields and leave the #3's "dark" ... It's certainly do-able ...

having played in Mesquite a gazillion times, I was shocked when I saw they would have teams play on Hunter #3. I personally played in St George this tourney, but I can see from the comments many people also didn't love it. I am glad Senior Softball taking a look at that.
