Spring Tourney-- Saint George Outfield Conditions
I wanted to see if others were as bothered as I was at the grass length in certain places in the outfield for the recent tourney in Saint George. Apparently, there had been a high school girls tourney the previous 2 weeks and they did not mow the grass around the area where the temporary fence was on many of the fields, causing real problems for outfielders.

It is such a great place to play, but care should have been taken to make sure the outfield grass was even length throughout the entire outfield. It looked bad, affected play, and should not have happened with so many teams committed to play there. My hope is that this has been discussed and will not happen again in the future. In some spots, it was 2-3" higher than the other parts that had been mowed.

Us traveling players spent a lot of money coming to play in Saint George. The least they could do is mow the lawn before play starts.

On Tuesday, there were fields at the Complex that had about a 5' band of an extra 2" of grass around the 200' area. By Wednesday AM, the fields we played on had that area cut.

We played the majority of our games on fields #2, #3, and I know they were not mowed through the end of the tournament. I did notice a couple of the fields were eventually mowed, but for certain #2 and #3 were not.

I noticed the band of grass in the outfield and your right about 2-3 inches higher... It did seem to cause an illusion when tracking down short fly balls... My biggest concern was the lip in the infield it seems to have gotten steeper and a trip hazard and had some grounders jump off of it making for some bad hop's...
I have loved to play on these fields in the past and have felt these were some of the best maintained fields in softball... They use to drag the infield between games ... I did not see them do that any of the games... made the infields average at best... what happened??? new management?? somebody else take care of the fields.... cost cutting?? anybody else feel this way...

I agree about the conditions of the OF's at the Canyons. I have played on these fields on 3 different occasions and this was the worse they have ever been. St. George is a tough trip but the fields make it worth it. I took my 11 yr old grandson on this trip. He is a competitive baseball player. I told him these were some of the best looking fields he will ever see. The outfields are usually like a putting green. When we stepped on them on Friday we were both disappointed with the conditions of the OF. I believe it was Field 1 that had a mud puddle on the left field warning track during the championship round. Extremely disappointed this time around.
