| April 1, 2017 southpaw Men's 70 1077 posts | An Old, But Never Forgotten Memory Vietnam, 47 years ago, on this day at 12:05 a.m. The first rocket hit a tree next to our shower. Shorty happened to be showering. Naked and covered in soap, Shorty made the 80 or so yards to his hooch in record time! The second rocket blasted out the corner of our new mess hall and the ice machine which had just been installed. 30 minutes prior, I had been standing less than 3 feet from the ice machine, running a movie projector for the few of us who were not on guard duty. |

My nephew and his new wife recently took a vacation to Vietnam. They actually had to pay for it. I told him he was just 50 years too late, or he could have gone for free with all expenses paid! |
| April 1, 2017 southpaw Men's 70 1077 posts | I was the armorer for C Troop, 2/1 Cav. Our firebase (Trooper) was 1 mile from Song Mao, 100 miles south of Cam Ranh Bay (spelling?). I arrived there in January, then the summer months were spent running road security for infantry into Cambodia, as far up as Pleiku. Last 2 months were in an artillery unit in Pleiku, after our colors were struck and the unit returned to the states. What is your story Texas? |

| April 2, 2017 TexasTransplant Men's 70 516 posts | My experiences were not nearly as dramatic as Southpaw's and Airbosn's. I spent the first 6 months of my tour on Hon Tre Island in the bay off of Nha Trang. No action at all while I was there although there was some immediately before and after. I do have a dramatic picture of Nha Trang, taken from the island on the opening night of Tet '68. Later I moved to the Tuy Hoa/Phu Heip area. I was Signal Corps. we provided signal support up and down the coast. At Phu Heip we supported, among others, a battalion of the Korean White Horse division and an element of the 173rd. Was on Tuy Hoa airbase one night when sappers got through the wire and destroyed a couple of C-130's. Otherwise, I was fortunate enough to spend most of my time in secure areas (spell that REMF).
