Need your opinon....and ideas
Would anyone be interested in the following tournaments?

Entry fee around $200-$250
2 umps per game
Hit whatever senior ball you have as long as its the right core/compression
3 game guarantee (wrap around bracket)
Prizes as good as we get now
not sure about scorekeepers yet
same age groups, (but maybe 50-57....58-64....65...70...75...80...85 (this would eliminate the 55 division which has the smallest number of teams)

2 divisions

AA/AAA (3 hrs with one up (all others outs) 5 runs per inning
Major/Major plus (6 hrs with one up (all others walks) 7 runs per inning

Most all tournaments would be on just Saturday and Sunday

Same rules as most senior softball, time limits, pitch runners, hit and sit, open innings etc.

Just a thought to see if anyone would be interested in something like this.

Let me hear your thoughts and opinions.

Hey Brett, I like your ideas. The only problem I see, is most teams are set up for the age brackets established by SPA, SSUSA and ISSA. That is on the 5's, 50, 55, 60... Our team for example would have to play in the 50-57 group to have enough to play. Us against 50's teams would be tough on us. But I like all your other idea's. Keep us posted regardless.

I am REAL shocked that not more people have had any opinions
Tourney fee for 200-250?
That alone should peak some interest.

I think you may have a great opportunity to start a competitive new association ... You could call it Coop's Own Outstanding Perfect Softball Association ... Nice use of your name as the acronym! ...

nails, our old retired guys don't like midweek tournaments because they interfere with our May-August leagues that play on Tuesday's and Thursdays

I agree with Vance, stay with the 5 year increments since that's how other organizations work and how teams are currently built.

I also believe if the USSSA or ASA would take your ideas they could compete with the big 3. Currently the ASA shows no interest in this endeavor and the USSSA hasn't pushed their program. To tackle this on your own would be very difficult.

What would work in our area is establish something similar to the Florida Half Century Club. Play in Montgomery, Marietta, Birmingham, Pensacola or other locations in the SE once a month.

With respected softball guys like you, Jimbo, Don H., Dennis R. Bruce F. and others teaming together this is a possibility.

You cold cut travel costs, entry fee costs, hit a great ball and still play other tournaments as desired.

nails, unfortunately we are in the northeast and have finally gotten outdoors the last 2 weeks.
We are headed to Tidewater Monday for a midweek tournament. Unless guys are willing to leave their teams once the regular season starts in May, we miss out on a few tournaments that we used to go as 60's. We did go to one tournament last year with our 65 team but played in the 60's division so we could play on weekend. Didn't fare to well against the yutes. I get what you mean by cheaper rates. .

Yes Perl, the Atlanta area could probably field at least a couple of teams.
Brett, ASA is showing signs of entering senior softball tournaments. They are looking at low fees as you mentioned.

Coop, my little, small potatoes, 1-day tourney in March, in Birmingham, is pretty much what you are contemplating. The only difference is that I go with established age brackets.
I think most have enjoyed and supported it, especially as a practice, warm-up in the pre-season.
Dream big, but start small; see how it develops!

I am not trying to start my own association, I was just trying to come up with ideas to make senior softball better.
The entry fees are getting so high that it is hard to come up with $6000 a year for 10 tournaments.
And then hotel room for 3 days, not 2.
I like to play as much as possible, just trying to come up with a way to do this and still eat.
Brett
And Dave, I know you like to bust my chops, but maybe listening to some ideas would be a good thing. Just because SSUSA is established, it doesn't mean it can't be improved (especially for the players)

coop ... We're good with whatever you want to do so long as you're not head-to-head with major events we run, and by extension, those of our good friends at SPA and ISSA ... The goal of bettering the senior softball experience (an everyday process with SSUSA) is an admirable one ... Just don't fall prey to the very common mistake that the perfect tourney is going to be cheaper, unless you're willing to fund the shortfalls that can and do happen ... The economies of scale apply in most cases ... Southpaw's advice is sound: Start small and see how it goes ... Good luck!
