What are you thoughts an playing this as night tournament to beat the heat in Riverside in July. i don't have any particulars on game times or any other issues that might come up. just want to get some general feedback on this idea. Generally speaking, they have them almost every weeknight and Sundays in many cases ... Those seem to take a higher priority than Senior Softball when it comes to field availability ... |

All I am after right now is finding out if teams are interested in this format. If they are we can work on particulars and see if it is possible. |

| May 23, 2017 gott2play Men's 60 212 posts | Ed, After this past weekend in Cathedral City, you picked the perfect time to bring up the topic of night games. For those of you not present, a player from the So Cal Riptide team suffered a heart attack during play. Thanks to a number of people, but specifically a nurse in attendance and one of my teammates performing continuous chest compression's until paramedics arrived, this player is alive today. It was hot over the weekend, and felt much hotter than the actual temperatures. It was still over 100 degrees, so the topic of playing at night is not so out of line... particularly for the tournaments coming up during the "dog days" of summer. It'll still be warm for night games...just no sun beating down on you. Let's not talk about tournaments being about the survival of the fittest, war of attrition, who's in shape, who's not, but rather what change could be implemented to lower risks and improve player safety and/or well being. | May 23, 2017 wdodge22 Men's 55 152 posts | I am all for doing what is safety for all players, so I will apologize in advance for throwing a bit of "devil's advocate" in here. I will start by saying, I like playing at night for a number of reasons, its a little cooler, I hate the smell of sunscreen and for some silly reason I hit better at night, BUT: Things to consider: 1. I know for me, when playing the field, I don't see the ball as well at night as I do during the day. I am sure that there are many others that have the same issue due to inconsistency of lighting at the fields. Not bagging on them, but it happens. 2. Assuming the fields are available, and we start at 6:00 pm, who will play the games at Midnight? Based on the small field of teams at BLD Cathedral City the last game started at 2:30 pm. That equates to 12:00 am start time. If there is a way to make it work, I am all for it. As for me, thought my guys complain a little, this is why I bring 14 players. People may not admit it, but they need a rest. On a side note, I am glad to hear that the player from Riptide is going to make it. We were playing on Fenway at the time it happened, and it was a very ominous feeling to stop play as they drove the ambulance across our field. Just my thoughts on the playing at night.
