Trump ball used in Reno - 40 Major plus
Having just returned from the Rock N Reno tournament I felt the need to throw this out there to the 40 Major plus teams and the executive of SSUSA. That ball was FANTASTIC and all the ball any player in that division needs. I saw more defensive plays this weekend than I have seen ever in Las Vegas. I truly believe that this is the ball we should be using at 40 Major Plus period. The Rock ball (or Titleist golf balls as we refer to them) is WAAAAAY to much ball at this level. How much better would the games be at BLD with this ball? a lot is my opinion. What are the executives thoughts or other 40 Major plus teams thoughts? I for one would think it would be a far safer game as well without that Rock ball.

Anyhow, soapbox speech over. Hats off to the folks in Reno for running a great tournament!

I agree. I would go farther and say it should be used for all divisions. The Rock makes anyone a home run hitter. I guess that's what senior players want.

I agree 100%. Trump Stote is a very fair ball and should be used in all tournaments if possible. The Rock is way too hot a ball especially for Vegas. Additionally teams play all year with the Stote and then get the Rock in Vegas. It completely changes the game. I know there is a contract issue with the Rock in Vegas but it would be nice to play with the Stote all year.

I agree 40s should use stote. For 1 reason
I carry 2 ball bags one with x rocks and 1 with stotes. I only do this because on occasion when the stote wasn't in stock we used x rocks outside of Vegas.

SS staff just curious are you at liberty to say how long the x rock contract goes until? if not no worries my 1 hand home runs with the x rocks excite the ladies in Vegas!!!!lol

Now if we can just step up the midwest and east coast mens 40s numbers for some big events we will be golden!!!

Great to see that it's not just me who feels this way. I did not however know there was a contract for the Rock ball in Vegas. Maybe some time in the future this will change? The bats and the players are so good in seniors ball right now. I could see maybe 65 and up wanting the Rock ball cause it's a heck of a lot of fun to hit them in BP but at levels with guys like Higgy, Kendrick, Hall, Paschal etc. those things come at you like bullets!!! LOL

As a 65 and over player I was looking for a more durable ball to use in our AZ league. The Stote balls turn to mush in our afternoon games and I notice some of them had small splits on the cover. It's not because we hit them too hard. Our league has AA to Major players with an age of 55 to 80 years old. We are going to try the Rock for our fall league to see if they last longer.

The Trump Stote may be good in at high altitudes and cool weather but in high temperature and high humidity the ball is not very good.

My bet is if you polled all SS players on which ball they prefer from below list the Stote wouldn't fair very well.

Rock
Baden Fire ball
ISSA Tattoo
Trump Stote

It would be interesting to run that poll and see what the results are...

If we are talking about 40's. Stote ball and senior bats in any temperature should be enough. 50's ifish, after that stote and 85 degrees suck I mean sock wait no I said right the first time suck.

Well, unless you were able to separate the age groups AND divisions (AAA, M and M+), wouldn't make sense as you can see that start of this thread is "40 Major Plus" and those guys (as well as I would guess 50 Major Plus and possibly 55 M+) could hit the Stote out of anywhere, ESPECIALLY the BLD because they are usually shorter fields. People who complain about the balls are USUALLY people who aren't necessarily HR hitters and WANT to be (IMO). We played this past weekend with Stote and while it wasn't flying it wasn't flying for BOTH teams. Basically if you build your team on hitting, you would prefer a livelier ball to give yourself a better chance of winning BUT if you are a defensive team, you would prefer it to be less lively (common sense). We always seem to discuss the balls on this site and the same issues are "rerun" and while we all have our VALID opinions, the one that truly matters is that SSUSA has contracts with both balls in certain tourneys and that won't change until the contracts are up, PERIOD!

So the beautiful thing about life is that we all have choices, if you want to play with a livelier ball, play in the 2 Vegas tourneys with the Rock, or ISSA with Tattoo or SPA with the Baden Fire (though I have heard that it has not been performing as it has in the past).

local - IMO Yes the Rock will perform better in the heat no doubt but will move a LOT and possible cause more injury as it is a harder ball and with seams it knuckles a LOT. So while the Rock IS better than the Stote but NOT the best ball out there for that climate (IMO). I am sure someone much more knowledgeable about balls can help you with this (tattooball for ex.)

Best of luck to all the rest of the season, I am just grateful to still be playing!

local - my apologies for not adding as I don't know the what the weather is like in your "Fall season" but assume it's cooler and therefore any ball would play differently to some degree that when it's hot. That should be taken into consideration when "trying out" a new ball (again, IMO).

Our Fall league is around 80 degrees on average. At time hotter.

The Rock ball will be used in the Vegas Tournament for many years to come. This is by LVSSA request in association with SSUSA. We use this ball year round and it performs well at all temperatures. All levels of talent and NO injuries due to the ball. The worst thing I can say about it is it can knuckle pretty good from time to time.

I read on a board awhile back this explanation of temps and ball performance . It stated , that all balls except the Rock lose approximately 5 lbs of compression for every degree over 72 . So do the math and you know why you are hitting a sock at higher temps . Saftey is not the reason the Stote is used . You all can probably figure out the reason why . Also , I do not see why everyone acts like hitting the Rock is an unnatural advantage . It just stays at the rated compression level no matter the temp. So why is hitting the SSUSA designated compression an advantage ?

I agree the Stote should be used in the 60 and below divisions. Age and senior bats more than make up for the ball. However, I believe, while not using the Rock, SSUSA should look at a better all weather ball. Also, in regard to the Rock durability, 8 of us hit about 40 weeks a year, twice a week, 50 balls apiece each day for over 2 years and the Rocks are still holding up.

i like the stote also i believe we should be able to pick which ball i want to hit in vegas since we have no choice to hit the rock in other events.

If the Stote ball is going to continue to be used hopefully it will at least be the micro cell version of the ball. Have yet to hit it since it's got humid out but it wasn't terrible at the ToC. Playing Detroit this weekend so we will see what feedback there is on the ball there.

Foothills: I disagree with your analysis. I belive its 5 lbs for every 5 degrees. However you must realize the rating on the ball is incorrect. The developer of the ball, when employed at Anaconda, told me once that the inner core is closer to 500 compression rather than 375. The ball was designed with a double cover to fool the original ASA compression test equipment. If you dont believe me cut a couple of balls in half. One ISA ROCK and the SSUSA Stote. Use a band saw as we did. Then just do a simple fingernail test. Try to gouge the core on each with the thumb nail. Then decide which is more dense. We did this once with a few 375/44 balls. Though not scientific most all reacted similarly to the gouge test.

Marv , I stand corrected if the 1 degree vs, 5 degree is the formula . But I still believe that a better ball should be used in heat . If the reg. is 375 , then we should use something that is 375 . Goes for both ways . If the ISSA rock is 500 .
