March 11, 2007 batwise 35 posts | Increasing bat speed What is the best way to increase bat speed. I just started playing again, age 64, walking and using light weights to help get stronger. Is there a device or something I can do to help ?? thanks |
March 11, 2007 STONEMAN Men's 50 535 posts | BAT WISE: lift weights & swing 3 diff wt bats. Swing a bat 2-3 oz lighter than ones reg' bat; take a short rest, then swing u're reg' wt bat; take a short rest, & then swing a bat that is 2-3 heavier than u're reg' wt bat. Do this 2- 3 times per wk. 1st 2 wks, swing 15-20 times. The 3rd wk, swing each bat 20 to 30 times. There r other post on bats that also, state other train' tech's. GOOD LUCK.....................The STONEMAN |

March 12, 2007 T-REX 64 posts | I used to do some early drills that helped...I don't believe in the bat speed theory,Hank Aaron swung a 40 oz. bat,I do believe in timing, its not how fast you swing, its when you swing.Hand and eye coordination is hugely important. If you think about it,your wrists are extremely imortant,i used to be a college coach,I made my players tie a rope on the end of a ten lb. weight, stand on a step lock there elbows and roll the rope up on a stick, wrists and legs are what you hit with.I also made them swing a 34 inch broomstick while being thrown whiffle golf balls, you have to concentrate on hitting it,when you hit a softball it looks like a volleyball. We also used nerf balls on a tee, working on swing mechanics...my team set 13 records for hitting,I should have taught them how to catch! swing hard in case you hit,be safe and have fun...I hope I helped! |
March 13, 2007 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | That's right, you can have great bat speed but if you don't hit the ball at the moment you unload your wrists it's all wasted. I also do the 10 lb weight thing except I use 5 lbs. |
