| July 18, 2017 amr-4-lc 47 posts | Player Safety Our team played in a tournament this past weekend (leaving out the particulars). On Friday the weather was not very cooperative with plenty of rain. However, the tournament committee tried squeezing in two games before the day was out. The fields were not in our determination safe to be played on as we had the 2nd of the two games. I will say that the two teams before us did play their game, with what our team thought was an extended risk of injury because of the field conditions. We approached the Tournament Director and asked if we could have our seeding game pushed back to Saturday morning because of the safety concerns (we as a team voted not to play, even if it meant taking a forfeit) not worth the risk of injury. It was worked out that our game could be played Saturday morning at 8am, however the other team declined saying they would have to get up too early for an 8am game. Long story short, we were pushed into a corner to play our game on Friday as opposed to Saturday morning. It seems the decision was made to accommodate a team having to get up to early as opposed to player safety, we as a team chose player safety over and above everything. (BTW - we end up with a forfeit) Legitimate concern on our part? Was the right decision made by the tournament director? Thoughts and comments welcomed. |
| July 18, 2017 mck71 Men's 60 344 posts | amr-4-lc: you failed to mention that more rain was in the forecast for Friday evening (and it did pour again I might add) not guaranteeing that the 8am game would be actually played at 8am but we would have had to get up at 6:30am, get ready to play and wait until a decision was made for a PLAY IN game with field conditions no better but probably worse (and this would be the ONLY 8am game scheduled to accommodate you guys because you didn't want to play). We already had an 11am play in scheduled Saturday, then double elim at 3:30pm and 6:30pm so why would we want to add an 8am play in game to that schedule making for a 12 hr day unnecessarily? Our team voted to play after the game in play as you mentioned and you guys chose not to so your comment on us being accommodated is a bit of stretch. Good luck the rest of the season. |
| July 19, 2017 amr-4-lc 47 posts | We were more than willing to play the 8am game, you guys weren't, player safety should be first and foremost. We also had a Saturday game scheduled at 9:30am, and then our two scheduled games in the afternoon as well. So I would have to say that I disagree with your reasoning, as our day would have been just as long as yours. Good luck to you guys as well. |
| July 19, 2017 mck71 Men's 60 344 posts | All 3 play in games Saturday were scheduled to start at 9:30am (yours being one of them) to allow the grounds crew additional time to get fields ready due to the pending rain Friday evening, again it did pour later. They were going to make an exception to add the ONE 8am game because you guys didn't want to play Friday evening at 4pm, which is fine. But to think that the fields would have been better than they were at 8am after more rain doesn't make sense and could have been made worse by us playing on them screwing up the one field the rest of the day and pushing back the newly revised schedule, yours included (which I am sure you guys would have been fine with, not sure about all the other teams that would have been affected). We chose to play the game as it was schedules at 4pm Friday, you guys did not. Let's just say we can agree to disagree and move on! |
