MIDWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS
The fields in Rogers, AR were great, but again only 1 Arkansas team. We drew more teams in Kansas City and had 8 fields. We lost the Colorado, Minnesota and Wisconsin teams. There was 1 team from Wisconsin. Can we move the Midwest Championships back to Mid America Center in Kansas City please.

I'd have to agree based on what I've heard and seen that KC was a better location for this tourney as far as getting teams to attend this tourney.

This line of inquiry/request is probably best directed to the municipal and the Mid-America sports complex people in Johnson County ... They are the ones who allocated our former multi-year Midwest Championships dates to a youth tournament, forcing us to relocate ... We were quite content in Shawnee, just as we are now in Rogers, AR ... It's sort of nice to feel wanted! ...

VERY GOOD POINT SSUSA STAFF. Recently I have been looking at sites to promote our area for Senior Softball. Guess what? Just as SSUSA staff responded, most parks and recs want the "kiddies". AND! The kiddies parents pony up big bucks! Sorry, but it is a sign of the times. We seniors need to get out and meet our local officials and show the money we can bring in. We senior players! Not just national staff folks! We need to grow our sport by asking other seniors one on one to play and have larger numbers of players willing to travel and play. If this upsets some folks so be it. WE PLAYERS need to get more involved at the local level.

I have found that when a championship tournament is moved, many times it involves SSUSA not wanted in the area. They believe other kids sports bring in more bucks. However, in speaking with the staff at the hotel we stayed at in Rogers, the seniors are preferred over the "kiddies" and their parents. Many times the young kids tear up the hotel while the parents are partying. They said it was hard to tell who was really running the group. We were told that we were really appreciated and that we would be welcomed back next year at their hotel. Further, I have found out from SSUSA staff, that many times they sign multi year contracts with certain cities and parks to be able to guarantee their welcome and not have to change sites frequently.

Good info STAFF. The only leverage you might have with a place like that is to take away the other tournament they have there which is the Cowtown Classic. No offense to Rogers, AR but St. Louis may be a better location for a Midwest Tournament (I did say may-nothing guaranteed). That's a little self serving to me since I'm from there but there are some nice facilities there.

Thanks STL0 ... We had no problems with the facilities in Shawnee (other than the obvious "not available" status) ... Mark's premise that the Minnesota and Wisconsin teams would return to Shawnee is probably a stretch now that there is a more geographically sensible (to them) TOC qualifier alternative in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area ... The five Iowa teams that went to Minnesota last month could also be a 50/50 proposition for returning to Shawnee, too ...

I will say I have enjoyed the Ark tournament the last two years. However, I agree with some of the comments on moving it.

I live in Illinois about 40 minutes south of the Wisconsin line. It takes me 11 & 1/2 hours to drive down there with reasonable stops. I am questioning if it is worth it. With the Steve Simmons tournament now a TOC and the Northern Nationals in Lansing, MI, I will not return. It will be up to the rest of my Gray Sox team to get enough guys to go, if they want.

I believe a St. Louis area tournament would possibly gather more teams even though the humidity can get rather intense. It would also be an easy interstate ride over for Indiana and lower Michigan teams.

Haven't gotten to them yet ... Had a serious run of back-to-back's recently (Northeast, Midwest, Northwest and Westerns) and scheduling "futures" is a higher priority than reporting on "historicals" ... I have the ISA World Series, Windy City and Easterns to write in the next 3 days ... Texas and SoCal are online, though ... Will play "catch-up" as time permits ... No current timetable ...

For a Texas team, The Midwest was closer for us than going to El Paso. I liked it much better. If the Texas Championships remain in El Paso, we are more likely to go to the Midwest if it stays in Rogers. One I would like to see rotated is the Western Championships. Most Southwest and Midwest teams can't afford to go to Sacramento.

Dave, this is Missouri Dave here. As usual, I am here to help you and to make your scheduling life less complicated. I offer the 60's group to play at BLD during the Master's Tournament in Vegas. Lots of guys do not like the artificial turf, paying a couple of dollars to gain entry, etc. So we will suck it up and make the sacrifice. That should help simplify this years gargantuan task of scheduling for Vegas. No need to thank me, just tryin to do my part!
