Is the base runner allowed to stop on the left or right side of the base, not touching it to avoid a collisions ?????

yes if he is avoiding a collision and beats the throw he should be called safe.... here is the rule 8.7(4) • AVOIDING COLLISIONS
A runner must make every effort to avoid colliding with opposing players while running the bases. If, in the umpire’s judgment, a runner misses a base to avoid a collision with a defensive player, the runner will not be called out. (See §8.6.)

baseballbill ... We completely agree with B.J. on this one, but here's a little caveat ... This is an umpire's judgment as to the distinction between "avoiding a collision" and "evading a tag" ... The base runner's assertion of avoidance must be supported by the umpire's judgment, and that judgment call is not subject to protest or appeal ...

What is the call when a runner is running in line to hit the orange bag at first base and the pitcher runs at a 90 degree angle and collides with the runner while trying to beat the runner to the bag?

kjones.. not seeing the play it's hard to call but you have to realize that sometimes you have incidental contact with both the runner and the fielder doing nothing wrong... but if in my judgement the pitcher crossed over into foul territory and impeded the runner I would stick out my left arm and call obstruction on the pitcher... if the pitcher stayed fair until touching the bag and beat the runner then I would have an out

yes the pitcher has the ball. He was not going for a tag. I was the runner and suffered a mild concussion due to the impact. The pitcher would never have been able to get to the base before me without running right through the bag and right through me. He did beat me to the bag but due to his angle he ran right through me. It was a bang bang play. Both players went flying in opposite directions. I thought it was reckless and dangerous in a sport designed for safety. The call was incidental contact.

Kjones... now that you fully explained the scenario... I believe the umpire made the correct call... it was just 2 hustling ball players trying to make a play... the pitcher was just trying to get to the bag ahead of you and the angle he would be running at from the pitching area would lead him across the bag... again the rule does state that you can run wide of the bag to avoid a collsion and still be called safe...but in your scenario it would be tough to do

kjones....our game is not based on safety.....if it was we would't be hitting these rocks in vegas....with basically rocket launchers....and ask everyone that they would rather the deadly bat ball combo than play it safe.....so again tell me where the real safety is......and again when ya question anyone...."well you can always stay home and not play".......go play checkers......

Safety is in senior ball with no collisions at home, an orange base at first, wearing a mask as a pitcher. I had a chance to lay the pitcher out but thought he was going to pull up. Go play checkers? Nobody plays harder than I do. You can ask any of my teammates. I could have seriously hurt that pitcher if I hadn't tried to avoid him as I am much bigger than he is. The director said it should have been interference and I was just trying to get some thoughts not sarcastic comments.
