Tournament seedings
Just got back from the tournament in Vegas and I always wonder why Senior Softball has seedings to set up the brackets after pool play? Pool play should be a warm up to the tournament and every team just draws a number at the mangers meeting to see when they play next. This would cut down on the delays associated with the seeding of the teams, after all we are already playing in the same division.

Lonz00, that's a good point
Here is another idea
Just play a true 3 game wrap around tournament (3 game guarantee)
Lower the entry fees and make ALL the games count

I wouldn't be against a random seeding, but not the 3-game idea. Many of us travel a long way to participate and knowing we won't play less than 5 games adds to the value. Obviously we want to play more games and go deep into the tournament, but a 3 game guarantee is too few. The major cost is travel and I doubt 3 game guarantee would significantly lower the entry fees anyway.

Or how about this novel idea. Enter the scores into an excel spreadsheet as the games are played then do the seeding in 10 minutes after the last pool game is played like it should take...not 2 hours like it did for the 55 Major 30 team bracket.

Lonz00 I understand your point but then there would be no incentive to play the play-in games. Personally I'd rather win the play-ins and get the higher seed--perhaps a later starting time, perhaps a boost of confidence going into the bracket round.
OneFive makes a valid point about value for expenses that are doled out. Putting that aside, you have a full team in uniform, I have a full team in uniform. We're playing a game in a sanctioned event where the score is kept, umpires are calling the game--I'm out there to win. Jmho

I do not claim to have the answer, but there has to be an better way to run this tournament. I was in the 55 majors and a 6:30 pm game turned into a 8:00 pm game on Friday night with a 8 am game on Saturday.

When was the last time a number 1 or 2 seed won the Worlds in Vegas?

Hello Gents,

Many of the directors are getting with the times and are using computers to quickly seed divisions.

The director at Sunset (55 Major site) is one of those directors. Unfortunately, his laptop froze up late in the seeding process. He contacted me for help, but I was at Shadow Rock (aka: Cell Hell). We got the job done but not in the manner that we intended.

The director felt horrible as did everyone else associated with the event.

I understand the frustration, but would vote NO on changing the format to a 3gg, drawing names from a hat, or anything of that nature.

Tim

Also remember that in this tournament, the #1 seed is determined solely on the USA Championship game. That probably adds a little time for the TD to sort out the seedings properly, especially when there are two - or more as with the 50AAA - when the loser of that game is also a #1 seed. Sometimes, probably rare, but sometimes an 0-2 team could be a #1 seed.
