WHY DID YOU ALL PUT THE WOMEN TEAMS AT HOLLYWOOD PARK?

THERE ARE NO GAMES BEING PLAYED AT THE SUNSET PARK & LORENZI PARK. SO I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU PUT THE 50 WOMEN TEAMS OUT

THERE IN THE MOUNTAIN WHEN YOU HAVE VERY NICE FIELDS THAT WE SHOULD HAVE PLAYED AT.

THE HOLLYWOOD PARK IS ONE OF THE WORST FIELDS THERE IS. WHY COULD'NT WE HAVE PLAYED AT BIG LEAUGE DREAM FIELD.

THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU ALL TO TREAT US WOMEN LIKE THIS. YOU HAD POSTED THAT THE WOMEN WAS GOING 2 PLAY AT SUNSET PARK.

NOW WE HAVE TO DRIVE ONE HOUR TO GET TO THIS PARK. PLEASE DO US RIGHT.

Ms. Dee ... In reply to your observations and questions on the Senior Women being assigned to Hollywood Park ...

• The 50+ Senior Women have a very comfortable game schedule based on times ... Here are some clarifications, along with some other options, you may wish to consider ...
• We are playing 87 games at Sunset Park over the three days, handling one-half of the 44-team Men's 40-Major Division .. However, I do have open game slots on four of the six fields at Sunset on Friday after 7:30 PM and after 8:00 PM (one field) and after 9:30 PM on two fields on Saturday ...
• Lorenzi Park is not in our fields inventory for this Session ... Nobody is playing at Lorenzi ...
• It appears that you have not seen Hollywood Park since it was completely re-done last year, refurbishing the two former fields, adding another tournament quality field and constructing a rest-room and service building ...
• Big League Dreams (where you will play on Sunday) has one open game slot on Friday (2:30 PM on Angel), has two open slots on Saturday evening at 6:30 PM (Crosley and Angel), but DOES have unlimited open game slots across all six fields beginning at 8:00 PM that evening ... Please let me know if this is something we should look into for you ...
• The TENTATIVE field assignments are just that ... They are NOT FINAL and ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE which, not so coincidentally, is the definition of that word, based upon tournament entry numbers ... That's exactly what happened this year ... If you are truly interested in understanding the "why's", please read my post on this topic in another thread here titled: Schedule for 40's World ...
• I've been a tournament director here in Las Vegas for about 15 years and have never stayed in an SSUSA headquarters or host hotel that was an hour drive from Hollywood Park ...

Good luck! ...

Ms. Dee, it happens all the time, which is why my coach won't play these tourneys. Rush hour traffic on Friday morning, with the current freeway construction and lane restrictions is a traffic nightmare.

Dave is right about Hollywood-- I saw in spring that we got assigned to play out there and was really bummed. I remember what a dump that place used to be. I would still much rather play at BLD, Lorenzi, AG, but I was happily surprised with the facelift the city gave those fields. Huge improvement over past experiences. The restroom was a huge improvement-- previously you had to walk down to the rec center.

The only bummer was when a couple kids stole the money lock box and ran away with the concessions earnings. Not good. Also, there were break ins down in the parking lot, so lock everything. Also, you are not close to many restaurants or convenience stores, so bring plenty to eat/drink.

You are playing a World Tournament in Las Vegas. Does a little traffic and a field not so close to your hotel really matter?

And how many times does SSUSA have to come on this message board and explain why certain fields are used?

Maybe it's time for people to stop bitching and complaining and be thankful you are alive to go out and compete..............

Ms Dee and Infielder:

Definitely echo Benji's comments. It only one day!

I live in Henderson which is pretty far from Hollywood or Shadow Rock. The Friday of the 55's, I left my house - near Green Valley Ranch Casino - at 7:15 and arrived at Shadow Rock via the 95 at 7:45. Saturday morning was even quicker. Hollywood would have been about 5-10 minutes less. Not sure I understand why it's a big deal. I drive to BLD twice a week just for league!

Miss Dee, just make sure your team gets insurance on your rental cars when you arrive from Houston, you will be playing in the sketchy area of the valley and lock everything in your trunk. I see we will be departing well before sundown, thank heavens! As for Benji4, sounds like a rep or obviously doesn'the get the regularly poor treatment that the women's teams do, sadly, I see a major decline in our division. I saw your email on another post, so I will send you a list of other senior tournaments that are a blast to play and on awesome fields in safe areas.

Google maps tells me 48 minutes to the field right now, of course Friday I will hit rush hour traffic to boot, but I will certainly be there and ready to enjoy the awesome vulgarity free day!

Infielder,

I take exception to your remarks regarding our city. Just a quick Google on crime rates shows that Houston has a crime index of 5 and Las Vegas 11. Neither is good by any means, but your comparison falls woefully short when trying to put down our city. We have issues, yes. For myself, I lived in Houston and I much prefer here. If it's that bad, then it would be ok for the number of teams coming to Vegas - a record number I believe - to fall to 611 from 612.

Ms Dee, we played this past Saturday at Hollywood. The fields were fine and playable. It was our first time playing there so i cant compare to what it was in the past but Im sure you will also find it very playable. Why make turn what should be a good time into a negative before even seeing the fields and playing in such a large and fun event.

Infielder, as far as your taking the insurance on your rental car. Use a little common sense and do not leave anything valuable in plain sight. You should not have any problems. We did not hear of 1 single issue there with break ins. As far as hearing vulgarity, i did not hear anything that resembled swearing there, the only people at the ball fields were the players and some staff.

I think you both are blowing this way out of proportion. Why not be thankful your able to play and have a great time.

Best of luck !

Just to set the record straight, I batted exactly .000 on TENTATIVE Field Assignments for Session #4! ... NONE of the eight divisions of play will appear where we had thought previously ... This is simply due to projecting a modest 3% increase in the number of teams over last year and having the actual growth be over three times that, at 10% ... It fits (barely) without resorting to modified competition formats and/or extremely late play on Saturday ... That's a plus in our view ...

It seems, in light of the horrific tragedy here in Las Vegas Sunday night, this topic being anything other than a tiny pebble of sand on the highway of life is somewhat unfortunate ...

I played with the 60 AA at Hollywood and BLD. Field #4 at Hollywood was in pretty good shape and the other two fields were in better condition from the last time I played there four years ago. I liked playing at Hollywood. Although it would not have been my first choice to play at, it was better than expected. BLD was a disappointment. Everyone had to PAY to get in. I didn't care for the carpet on the infield. Some of the fields also had piecemeal replacement of the carpet. The outfields were very worn. The grass looked like it needed some serious watering in places. I wish we could have finished at Hollywood instead of BLD.

I am just grateful for having a place to play and that due to the catastrophe of events in Las Vegas the whole tourney wasn't cancelled. Having a few modest tourneys I am thankful for the efforts and I completely understand the inconvenience of moving complexes as we booked a house close to the POSSIBLE fields. I think in the overall we will work through it and go play a fun game.

I do not disagree with Dbax, the tournament is not being played at Lorenzi, so it really isn'the reakky relevant.

What is relevant, though, is Ms.Dee's original assertion that there are "..NO GAMES BEING PLAYED AT THE SUNSET PARK & LORENZI PARK. SO I CAN'T BELIEVE.." ... She's flat wrong on one park (Sunset is full) and effectively wrong on the other (Lorenzi is not in the inventory) because her premise is that we could have put the 50+ Senior Women at either of those parks rather than Hollywood ...

That position lacks fundamental knowledge of teams/games demand allocation process over the facilities that ARE available, combined with the local league restrictions imposed ... I don't expect her to have that expertise, which is why I'm the National Schedule Consultant just trying to make it all fit reasonably ... Contrary to the tone of her post, field allocations are never personal ...

The tone of her post? Who made this personal? Maybe it is a newer team to the tourney, maybe they haven'the previously experienced a field switch before. You know Lorenzi isn'the in the inventory, but wanted to throw Dbax in the mix? Very puzzling attitude in general, let alone as a representative of the SSUSA and this tournament.

Dbax coaches a 50's Women's team playing at Hollywood. He absolutely has a dog in this fight and is qualified to comment. He does not represent any opinion except his own (and maybe his spouse's).

Dbax posted a statement I agree with, HOWEVER, Lorenzi is not a field offered up in this tourney, so it doesn't really apply to anything I have stated. Dave and Angie have a great team, but nothing to do with my response to Hollywood fields.

I want to clarify a bit my comments a bit since bits and pieces have been used to make a point I don't totally agree with.

1) Hollywood is a good park after the recent changes. Bathrooms are on premise, clean, and very convenient. Fields have been upgraded.
2) It was not good that the cash box was stolen. It was done by a couple of high school kids who get out of school and walk through the park. Keep your valuables close to you, especially when school lets out and the parade of students walk through and you will have no issues
3) At no point did I feel unsafe there personally. Hollywood is in a considerably safer area than Lorenzi, BLD, and others in my opinion (I live in LV)
4) Every one of these parks have issues with things taken from cars. Just be smart and you won't have issues.

I was trying to make a positive comment about how Hollywood has improved and no longer is the joke venue of the tournament, but adding the cash box comment distracted some folks. If personal safety is an issue, Hollywood is just fine and much better than other locations. If you are just bummed you didn't get to play at BLD, no one can help you.

Ok, after two days at Hollywood, the fields are much improved. Great concession stand. Outfields are not so nice. Lots of bare spots, weeds and some dips.
The biggest problem which SSUSA failed to mention is that the upper diamond is a baseball field with fences I would estimate being 350 to 380 feet. That is a lot of area for 50 and over women outfielders to cover.

Being a native to Las Vegas and having 5 of my friends shot last weekend. I found this thread crazy!!! I have travel to different cities and not once have I ever took it for granted that my valuables are safe in my car in plain site. Being in a better neighborhood??? Tell me what neighborhood is better than another. If something is going to happen it will happen no matter what neighborhood or city. SSUSA did a good job with what fields they had to work with during there time here in Las Vegas. If you have forgotten that our city is healing and the city has been throwing benefits for the victims during your stay here. There were several softball games going on at other parks for different purposes and not just the SSUSA tournament during your time in Las Vegas. Just remember that no one is perfect. Remember you got to play or attend a softball tournament with your love ones, family and friends to have fun. Thank you again SSUSA for bringing the tournament to our city and LVSSA for your hard work to help the tournament to be a success. #VEGASSTRONG

Hollywood Park Field #4 is a concentric shaped field at 300' dimensions to the fence all the way around according to Clark County Parks & Rec. and Google Earth imagery.

Dbax ... No dispute on you being a trained observer, but Clark County could have moved the fences since the Google Imagery date of 5/17/2017, but it's somewhat unlikely ... They thought, as of Wednesday, that the fences were at 300' ... [grins] ...

Hafa Adai!

On behalf of the Guam Mighty 50's Womens Team, Thank you SSUSA for hosting an awesome tournament and allowing us to continue our participation. Our ladies had enjoyed every moment spent at Hollywood Park. They only thing that effected us was the sun setting over the horizon on Field#1 that could have been a big safety issue. BIG THANKS, to field director Mr. Jerry for having our game transferred to the other field. We really appreciated that accommodation. Looking forward to 2018!
