Vegas World Tournament Getting Too Big ?
I am very respectful of all the hard work put in by Terry, Dave, Fran and all the directors
who put this tournament together. The underlying sense I took from the managers meeting, and
other situations that came up, was to get games done asap, so the fields could be ready for
the city leagues. Where I come from, the city leagues are cancelled, for big tournaments.
The 1st situation was, I got to Vegas early Sunday, went to Lorenzi to see if some friends
were still playing in 55's, they weren't there. I found them at Shadow Rock, playing in the finals. The grass in the outfields was all burnt out the infields were rock hard, balls taking bad bounces everywhere. I asked the mgr why they were playing here, he said it was a money issue with the city wanting too much money for a few games, so they had to play the finals on crappy fields. Next situation, my team played @ BLD Mon 10am and 230pm no problem. Tues
am we play at 8am then again at 9am. Works out we play again at 230, 3 games in 1 day are not a problem, except it was to be a " 4" day tournament, we lose at 230, we are done, and out of the tournament. You can't imagine the disappointment looking forward to this tourn all year,
then being done in 2 days. The BLD fields are overrated, $12 for a pitcher of beer, $6.95
for a glass of beer? give me a break. The fields are in need of repair, paint, plywood has holes in it. I hope the teams from Hawaii or Guam didn't face the same schedule. Was glad not to have to pay the $5 fee @ BLD the last 2 days, went site seeing instead. Will take a vacation from Vegas for a while.
