SPRING NAT'LS - 50 AND 55 MAJOR/MAJOR+ ALERT
Ratings changes (last minute Major+ player additions) in the 55 Major/Major+ Division resulted in the Brackets being re-drafted for the weekend games ... There are now five (5) teams in the 55-Major+ Bracket (one of which is a 60-Major+) ... The three (3) 50-Major and the two (2) 55-Major Teams will be in their own separate Bracket ... The Friday games are UNCHANGED, but the weekend is a complete re-draft affecting these two divisions ONLY ... The Master Grid has also been revised accordingly ... Good luck to all! ... DAVE

I understand the need for the changes. The problem is players had already purchased their airline tickets and had to leave Winterhaven Sunday morning.
Maybe in the future the rosters should be submited and checked earlier.

This was not a good way to handle this situation in my opinion. I am not clear what or why SSUSA continues to conclude that combining age groups is the right way to handle having to few teams in the major+ division to play? The logic is hard to understand when all past rules related to this topic were directed towards combining divisions of play not age groups!!!! Many unhappy teams this past weekend at this tournament. Local directors left holding the bag and taking the blame for what appears to be a national office decision. Not good for SSUSA or senior softball in general when these kinds of things happen. I hope your group can figure this out and correct it in the future before teams decide to stay away.

Mike I agree with you totally. This put alot of hard feelings into what was some very good softball. I know the directors took alot of flack from the teams. Their hands were tied and only did what was told from the higher ups. I had the pleasure of umping your game sunday. I always enjoy having the opportunity to do any of your games. I hope the associations clear these problems up and they don't again put a damper on things. I look forward to seeing you around the tournament trail again.

Thanks Ron for the feedback. You do a great job behind the plate. It is a thankless job being an umpire. I too hope that SSUSA figures out a better way of bracketing Major+ teams in the future. If not more players will move to other teams and find a way to play down! That is not good for the game or the Association.
