| Nov. 6, 2017 baseballbill 137 posts | Interference call on double play Runners on 1st and 3rd, none out, ground ball to short, goes to 2nd for first out, throw to first gets interfered with runner going to second and interference is called. Is the second out called on runner going from 3rs to home or the Batter going to 1st ??????? |
| Nov. 6, 2017 Garocket Men's 55 259 posts | Not sure about Senior Softball but in all other associations if interference is by a runner that has already been put out, ( which in your case that is the scenario) then the runner closes to home would also be called Out. Might want to look this up in the senior rule book but in all other associations that is the rule. With one out then you could call the runner at 1st out on the double lay and the runner at third would not score because of the 3rd out was a force play. |
| Nov. 6, 2017 Garocket Men's 55 259 posts | EFFECT Sec. 5. B. If the interference is not ruled intentional; the batter-runner is entitled to go to first base. If, in the opinion of the umpire, the interference is an obvious attempt to prevent a double play, the immediate succeeding runner shall also be called out. When a base runner interferes after he is out or after scoring, the most advanced runner shall be declared out. This is the USSSA rule and ASA is the same but a little different wording Note at the end it says interference by a runner THAT has already been put out the most advanced runner which means the one closes to home shall be declared out |

| Nov. 6, 2017 B.J. 1105 posts | this has been discussed in the past and you wont find any EFFECT on an interference call in the SSUSA rule book... there is no automatic penalty or "2nd out" the penalty is based on the judgement of the umpire on whether the defense could have tuned a double play... in the original scenario you do not explain what the interference was... if it was the runner bumping into the fielder, then the umpire would determine if the defense could have made a 2nd out at home or 1st base and make the proper call. |
