Time on my hands
Winter Nationals, North Collier Field, Naples
Top of the 7th, men on 1st and 2nd we are up by a run
fly ball hit to me in medium right center field.
i catch it, 2 outs
and set up to make my throw runners are looking to tag up.
I get about 1/3 through my throw when 'CRACK'
my humerus explodes . The ball goes toward right field as i dejectedly walk off the field and my lifeless arm is wafting back and forth.

Tim and staff get the ambulance crew, go to hospital.
where it was set for the long ride home back to NY

Fast forward 10 days, I've seen a sports orthopedist (same guy who did my arthroscopic knee surgery in 2011)
It's a butterfly fracture, they have clamped in what they call a clamshell put on by the orthopedist in Naples.
I am to see my ortho 12/11 and they hope it will heal naturally.

So hear I sit pondering my recovery, my softball future (ortho reminds me I'm not 25) and my overall quality of life.

Some of you might be familiar with Dave Dravecky who had a similar break, his due to cancer. The good news was this did not seem to be the case based on XRays.
On this forum I know guys talk about injuries, recovery, anything and everything softball related.
Anybody know someone who had to deal with a fractured humerus?
Rod or plate and screws is a possible alternative if it doesn't heal naturally.

Sorry this is so long winded. Hoping against hope to be back playing that game that we all love.

Wishing all a Blessed Thanksgiving!

Thanks Mac and Fabe. And also prayers to Ken Schneider of the CCMedicals team that won the 70AAA division who from what I understand separated his shoulder in an accident similar to mine.

Since my post of 11/18 ALOT has happened.Started coughing up blood on the 19th to the point I went to emergency room. I was admitted to hospital with 3 blood clots that probably formed due to broken left arm and a 21 hour ride home from FL. 1 in the right calf and 1 in each lung.what I thought was a cramp in my calf due to possible dehydration was probably the clot. (Stay hydrated in the heat guys). Somehow the arm was not my 1st priority!

Just got home from the hospital today. 9 days diagnosing, trying to get the blood thinners properly regulated. And what probably could have had dire effects, have been monitored. So now its monitor this and thinking about the ordinal problem, the fractured humerus.

will definitely start 2018 on the DL. lol
