SURVEY RESULTS
OK, the voting on the survey ended last night. All 5,000+ votes have been tabulated, but the results of the various options will not be announced to the public (maybe) until after a meeting in January?

DieselDan ... That's not what our post early this morning said ... What it DID say was the results "..have been tabulated and reported out to the National Rules Committee for review and comment prior to their telephone conference call session on 01/09/18.." ... Polling closed at midnight and by just ahead of 5:00 AM the results were sent out on a confidential Rules Committee-only basis ... No timetable has been set for public release, but the Rules Committee gets the first look for its own internal commentary and analysis ... It's likely public release will occur prior to the January 9th Rules Committee meeting ... It will post here first ...

And my point Dave is it shouldn't be a big secret until January. The final totals are done and maybe the paying customers might have some interest in the results before the conference call. If they decide not to go with the option with the highest vote tally I doubt that will have players storming the Sacramento offices. It has to do with senior softball, not some political survey affecting millions of people. Thank you Dave for your reply.

OK Dan, here are some thoughts on point ...

• I'm sure the "paying customers" have an interest in the survey results ... At the appropriate time, they will get them ... That time is not before the Rules Committee has a reasonable opportunity to study and analyze them ... There no "big secret", and all will have time to comment in writing (via email or snail-mail) to the Rules Committee before the working session ... As a reminder, Message Board Commentary is specifically excluded from consideration by the Committee, and the conference call is three weeks from today, so a bit of a respite from the redundancy of much of the posting here isn't necessarily a bad thing! ...
• The aggregate raw response data was "cut" by player age, gender and geographic locale by the Clubs & Leagues regions of play ... The responses in favor of the "1-1" were also "cut" on the same analytical criteria for the With/Without Courtesy Foul issue ... Technical trend analysis from the results five years ago is also a factor for analysis, as is the age of specific groups that may be considered for "1-1" implementation, and in what flavor ... The Committee is going to take a few days without distraction to study the data in that context ...
• We have said from the start this survey is advisory only and non-binding ... Nothing has changed in that position, but we will be paying careful attention to the stated preferences of those who chose to participate ...
• On the participation issue, we were very surprised at the low level of "voter turnout" ... We sent out 22,877 participation invitations (to known "good" email addresses) and a total of 5,245 actually replied, representing a rather paltry 22.9% ... This wasn't exactly the most challenging three-item multiple choice question ... The rate of response was expected to have been much higher ...

Best advice right now is patience! ... Many times there IS a difference between the time some people WANT something as opposed to when they actually NEED it ... This is likely one of those times ... Cheers!

Let the chips fall where they may, after all, if the voting results are not as expected the other side can always blame the Russians.. :-)

OZ40 ... We didn't have any expectations for this survey, except for a higher voter turnout than the paltry 22.9% ... The overall preference on "1-1" vs. "0-0" remains fairly close, with only a 12% spread in the aggregate, but the majority has swung to the "1-1" format ... The numbers, as have been the case in both prior surveys, show a higher preference for the "0-0" count as age increases ... Now it's just a discussion and debate by the Rules Committee on whether or not to enact change, and if so, how ...

For all of the huffing and puffing on the forum, a 25% response rate seems low. I have learned over the years when a "hot topic" for some is opened for public discussion, it turned out that it wasn't so "hot" for others; in fact, most felt the status quo was acceptable for them and no need to change which is why they didn't vote/attend a meeting/return a response/etc. in response to the issue.

There is a possibility that some voted on the first survey and ignored the second query, perhaps didn't even open the email thinking it a duplicate.

Having been involved in quite a few public surveys for municipal government I can say that anything above 15% on those surveys is considered good.

I for one did not receive the survey even though I receive all other email from SSUSA. I didn't push because this issue is not a big deal for me. For future surveys what do I need to do to make sure I can get involved.

I also would be interested in voting. I have been pushing for 1-1 since it stopped after playing as a youngster and started playing senior. Bless you guys for looking into this as I would have loved to vote but did not get anything maybe it could have gone to junk mail. Many of you know that Senior Softball has a special place in my heart not only for letting me play but each year Terry and Rest have helped our Children's Home in Mesa each Nov.. As a pitcher I hate the 0-0 count as a batter the same because if I do swing at first pitch and not get a hit I could expect to hear the chatter from teammates. I am very hopefull it passes for 1-1 count. My nightmare will be if it is passes for 40's through age 60 and stays at 0-0 count for 65 and older division. I will start playing65's this year for first time as I turn 65 in March. I will play no matter what the decision and I am thankful for the chance to continue to play a child's game. Bless all of you and I look forward to a new season. Hugs, Gary Ingle

The survey "closed" a little over a week ago and the final results have been tabulated and categorized ... The full detail data analysis has been provided to the National Rules Committee and a short synopsis of same has been posted here ...

You received one of the 22,877 invitations to participate in the survey if you met ALL of the following criteria as of December 8th:

• You are a currently registered SSUSA player, OR were a registered player during the 2016 or 2017 season(s) if your registration hasn't yet been renewed for 2018;
• You have a valid email address on file as a part of your SSUSA registered player page (which is NOT necessarily the same as the email address you may have used when you authenticated your Message Board posting account);
• You have not officially "opted out" of receiving email communications from SSUSA; and
• Your email handling software/device doesn't divert SSUSA emails to a "junk" or similar folder ...

There will not be any follow-up polling ... The National Rules Committee will meet in a special telephone conference call session on January 9, 2018, to discuss the survey results and to consider the potential implementation of the "1-1" count to other age groups of play ... We will publish the official minutes of that meeting shortly after its conclusion ...
