Jan. 14, 2018 VegasBob 66 posts | Magic Stuff Those of us that play tournaments in the Southwest have probably seen the "Magic Stuff" sales at the ballparks. Just curious if you've had a good experience with it and what part of the body you've used it on. Apologize if this subject has come up before. |
Jan. 14, 2018 DaveDowell Men's 70 4296 posts | I'm surprised you haven't used it before, VegasBob, since Jerry Stone and his associates have a regular presence in the western tournament circuit as an SSUSA sponsor ... Simple personal observation: I don't know what's in it (don't want to know!), but it could be renamed "Miracle Stuff" without being deceptive ... It's been highly effective for me in any external application to handle a very broad spectrum of aches and pains, pain from bruises, muscle cramps and minor sprains, even insect/bee stings and sunburn ... I've used Magic Stuff (and it's predecessor Wintercrest) on an occasional as-needed basis for probably close to 15 years ... To borrow a quote from another ad campaign, I "..don't leave home without it.." |

Jan. 14, 2018 Duke Men's 65 908 posts | FYI, There is another product called Arnicare or Arnigel, both exactly the same. You can find it at most stores, especially Walmart. One is a store brand and the other is not. $2 cheaper for the store brand, and not expensive at all. It has pretty much the same ingredients as mentioned above, except it is odorless and greaseless. I have used it for bruises from being hit by a ball. Instead of taking 3-6 months to heal completely, it will generally take 7-10 days, with virtually no black and blue marks, as well as little swelling. Just apply 3 times a day for 7-10 days, and you will be as good as new. At least per my experience and a few other players. Best to work on not getting hit. With these crazy bats at our age, plan on getting hit once in a while. LOL! Andy Smith, USED2BE, 65 Major |
Jan. 14, 2018 cronin51 Men's 55 20 posts | As a retired Fireman that had many an injury, this is a mainstay of my wake up routine. When its real bad I apply before bed, low back shoulder knee, just a little advice, put some saran wrap over so you don't smell up the sheets, can keep the spouse from wringing your neck. Wash hands before bathroom break or rubbing eyes. |

Jan. 16, 2018 stick8 1991 posts | Duke, is this product you speak of good for muscle strains and pulls? |
Jan. 17, 2018 Duke Men's 65 908 posts | Stick8, Arnicare temporarily relieves muscle pain and stiffness due to minor injuries, overexertion and falls, reduces pain, swelling and discoloration from bruises. It definitely does those things as indicated on its product. What it has done for me, besides what I mentioned in my previous post, it will reduce the bulge in my lower back. I have a minor pinched nerve between 2 discs, that occasionally bulges or swells. I use this product, and it reduces the swelling in about 15-30 minutes. Last week I had some awful leg cramps/muscle pulls, and was in major pain. I am talking quads, calf muscles, and hamstring, all at the same time. Felt like a cripple. I drink a lot of water, so I knew that was not the reason for this. My first thought was to get the Arnicare and apply it to all my leg muscles and lower back. In less than 15 minutes, all my symptoms were gone. It is not that expensive, so I believe it is worth trying it out. Most everyone in our leagues has this stuff, and happy that they do. Yesterday, a player got hit just above the glove area on the wrist. It started to turn colors and swell, then he applied Arnicare immediately and in about 30 minutes, the swelling was dramatically reduced, and the coloring was clearing up. Yes, it still hurt, but he will be fine in a week, as long as he applies Arnicare at least 3 times a day for that week. Ice packs would be a good idea as well as the Arnicare, to make the healing quicker. Good luck, and let me know how it works for you. As a side note, not every product works the same for everyone. Maybe the other above mentioned product works better for some, or at least they are convinced that it does. I will say that everyone that I have given Arnicare to try, has gone out and bought some, except one player. His issue was as indicated above, but it opened up the skin, and you are not supposed to use this product, when that has happened. Andy Smith, USED2BE, 65 Major |
Jan. 18, 2018 stick8 1991 posts | Duke, I'll make a trip to Walmart, purchase it and try it out. I'll let you know how it works. Appreciate the info |
Jan. 18, 2018 Graphite 56 posts | Just curious, how many teams does Arnicare sponsor? What happened to taking care of your own? Maybe it's just a Southern thing to do so. |

Jan. 21, 2018 Webbie25 Men's 70 2410 posts | I have used Wintercrest-or now Magic Stuff since 2006 when I pulled a hamstring at World's and it actually kept me in the game at about 3/4 speed. I about take a bath in it before I play, but it is great. When I had a small tear in my rotator cuff in my throwing shoulder, I rubbed it on that right shoulder and combined it with ultrasound from my Chiropractor-the miracle man- and it healed my arm, and I still throw reasonably well for a 65 yr old. This stuff works! |
