Jan. 16, 2018 marcster13 102 posts | Thoughts on new Courtesy Runner rule I like the new Courtesy Runner rule. It should help keep the game moving along and add a different strategy. The way my mind works I am thinking of possible situations teams may find a "workaround". Assuming the team does NOT have any substitute players. What happens if a batter reaches first base safely then on next batted ball moves up to 2nd or 3rd base, reaching safely. Calls Time Out because he is "hurt". Can he have a Courtesy Runner due to injury or is he simply out because he can't run? or Assuming the team DOES have substitute players. What happens if a batter reaches first base safely then on next batted ball moves up to 2nd or 3rd base, reaching safely. Calls Time Out because he is "hurt" or the coach simply calls for a Substitute player to run because he is faster. Does this act in the same way teams usually use a substitute player for batting? The sub comes in to play, in this case run the bases....... then comes back out of the game for the same guy? |

It simply states that a CR must enter the game prior to the first pitch to any subsequent batter, NOT necessarily the "next" batter ... It only prevents a "mid-at-bat" entry ... It's intent is to have CR's ready to go for an efficient entry ... The other CR (and substitution) rules remain in play and unchanged ... Don't "over-think" this one! |

I thought it was like other places that state a courtesy runner must replace the runner before the first pitch to the next batter. Otherwise there can be no courtesy runner for that runner at anytime thereafter. |

Either he's ready to enter the game NOW or he gets that entire next at-bat to get re-ready and try it again ... |
