Winter Classic in Bullhead
We attended the Winter Classic in Bullhead Tuesday through Thursday. Probably the best organized tournament I have been to in years. The tournament was designed for the players.
1. The fields were in pristine condition in the morning as most tournaments, however, after each game the tractor came out and dragged the fields. Then they raked the areas down the lines and around home plate so that the fields for each game were in the same condition as the first game. Most other tournaments either do nothing after the first game or do minimum maintenance.
2. Another item that was different from other tournaments, they had coolers in the dugouts with 12oz bottles of water and smaller bottles for quick refreshment. I realize this is not as cost effective as the water jugs, when supplied, but, again it was for the player’s convenience.
3. Then to top it off, this time in Bullhead, someone on staff had connection with someone above as the weather was very good for a tournament in Bullhead.
Thanks Bullhead and SSUSA for a very good experience.

Yes, the town employees did a nice job keeping up with the fields, which might be easier with fewer teams. Driving the tractor in flip flops isn't too safe though. Hardly any wind for that area.

After the first day, those in charge didn't use field 1 at 10:30 do to the sun. The home plates on the first day were too short by a few inches and a little wider than spec and looked like they were bought at Lowe's. On Wed., rubber plates that were the right size with a white regular size home plate print on it were used. On Thurs., the front door mats were back, so I walked into the storage area, grabbed one of the proper sized plates, and took it down to the new field 3 for our 9AM game. For our 10:30 game at one of the older fields, the mats were set up, the umpire was in the dugout and didn't care which plate was used. I went and got another right sized plate. Te umpiring for some of our games still wasn't good. He's using a clicker and had the count wrong and later had the number of outs wrong. The tall guy who seems never to be in an association shirt was on the bases and mostly stayed at first base when runners were on first, or first and second. Finally, too many base umpires are ball watching instead of watching the batter and any base runners tagging the bases.

Not us. Many are still waiting for the World's game results from 2017.

I agree with bruiser, very good experience. Didn't have the problems Diesel had. Will be back for sure next year.

We, Game On, thought the fields were great, umpires were better than in many tournaments, bottled water in dugouts was great!

Wish I could say something good about the TD, but it was Mike! LOL Good job, Buddy!
