When runners are entitled to advance
Runners on 1st and 2nd with one out and a fly ball is hit to right center and is caught. Runner on 2nd is half way to 3rd and sees that the ball is caught and attempts to return to 2nd base. The throw leaves the fielder's hand and a good throw would have doubled up the runner going back to 2nd; however it is overthrown and continues to roll beyond the boundary lines past 3rd base. I know the runner should be awarded two bases under section 8.4(10)D. Does that mean the runner from 2nd is awarded 3rd and home or 2nd and 3rd?

Runner gets 3rd and home. Runner already had possession of 2nd so 2 bases from 2nd. Now the kicker is runner must legally tag up or be subject to being out on appeal.

You are saying the bag the runner must retouch doe not count as one of the 2 bases the runner advances? Because in my reading my usssa rulebook it gives this specific example and states it does count as one of the 2 bases and the runner on 2nd would only end up on 3rd. Page 48. Therefore different rule for different organizations?

fyi, just trying to brush up on rules since I will be managing this year and not playing due to recovery from injury. Not happy about that but what can you do.

Didn't expect it on this one, though. Guess I'll spend my time on the DL brushing up on the rules and the differences between the 2.

Kman is right in usssa, its two bases from the outfield--the one you are going toward and the next one. And yes in that situation the runner must go back and touch second and then go to third.
In ssusa bj is correct, the runner on second would be awarded home and the runner on first would get third. And that runner that was referenced must go back and retouch second.
