| March 3, 2018 20boy1 3 posts | Scorekeeping In a recent tournament (Las Vegas). Western Nationals, a scoring challenge occurred where a team scored 4 runs but the umpire only credited 3. The manager confronted the umpire to correct the scoring error at the end of the inning. The umpire went to the scorekeeper of the team that scored the runs. The umpire then checked with other team manager who told the umpire that they were not keeping a score book. The umpire then credited the other team with 5 runs. The game ended in a tie in regulation. The team with the free run went on to win the game in extra innings, putting them in the finals . I could not find a rule covering this decision. Are you required to keep a score book? The penalty for not doing so is a 5 run inning. What if it was the open inning. How many runs ten? |
| March 4, 2018 B.J. 1106 posts | the umpires on the field are in charge of keeping the score and as the rule states he will verify with both teams after each 1/2 inning the correct score.. for him to change his score card the team must have shown him where the extra run had scored... as far as them ending up with 5 runs instead of the 4 I have no idea why.. there is no run penalty for not keeping a book other than you have no way to argue the score |
