Hip Replacemant Results
Just wanted to see the results any of you have experienced after hip replacement . Were you still able to play up to your previous " expectations " before your surgery ? Did your doctor recommend you no longer play or if not did they say to expect limitations ? I am going thru the " shots " in the hip joint procedure now to see if that will work for me at least temporarily . I know a lot of players have gone thru knee replacements with mostly good results but I have not heard anything on hips . Just wanted to see what I may have to consider .

Thanks

Hips are much easier than knees. Total hip replacement 12/2007 and started playing 02/2008. Schedule after Worlds and get it done. Quality of life improved beyond my expectations. Total knee in Nov/2016. Redemption tour 2017 went pretty good. Played both 60 and 65 Major with decent success. Again, quality of life improved beyond my expectations.

I had both hips done in 2009. One of the best decision's I ever made. My doc suggested I take a year off from any athletic stuff and I did. Have been back playing ever since I was still playing young guy ball then I was 46 when I had mine done. I would suggest getting it done asap you will not regret it.

Had both replaced, one in DEC. 2006, one in Jan. 2008. Couldn't rehab properly due to a life threatening infection complication from the first (right) replacement. The second was great until now. I played every year since the replacements but I've never been the same, especially as it relates to power!

Having said that, when it's time to replace your hips you really have no choice and most everyone I know that did has had much better results than I have.

If I had to do it over I would (with a different Orthopedic Surgeon). Make sure you choose the very best OS in your area!

Had my right done in late 2012 and the left in July of 14. Have played without pain since but definitely a drop in power and line drives. I believe my mechanics need re-work to compensate for the prosthetics. Also,I only play tourneys, 12+ per year, no leagues and very limited bp. I think if you want to still have game you need to put time into it. I recommend having surgery done by a surgeon from joint replacement center who does them all the time. And, go for the lesser invasive approach, anterior (side), 4" scar, less bleeding, no restrictions on bending/twisting. Both of mine were done the Kevin Bozic, who performed Bo Jackson's last fix in his late 30's. Good Luck! You won't regret it.
