| April 28, 2018 Wayne 37 Men's 65 773 posts | Since you can't answer the question, I'll give you the answer. 1) A batted ball that lands in fair territory that isn't caught. 2) A batted ball that is touched over fair territoy while is in the air and runner tags 3) A batted ball over foul territory where the runner tags up when the ball is caught. |

And if you judge the ball would have cleared the fence you would award 4 bases, but I can't judge if a runner standing and not moving when they have every opportunity to do so is not interference.............hmmm. One of those 4 base awards that slipped past ya earlier. |
| April 29, 2018 B.J. 1105 posts | lmao wayne you just wont give up.. the difference in the 4 base award for a ball that could have cleared the fence if not hit with a thrown glove is that IT'S THE RULE .. also again as far as with a runner standing on the bag and not moving THE RULE SAYS HE DOES NOT HAVE TO MOVE.. if you dont like the rule as it is written you have a couple of choices.. 1) stop playing and umpiring SSUSA 2) find out from Dave when and where the next rules convention is and go and state your case.. who knows maybe they will re-write the rule |

Line drive hits pitchers glove over his head and carries to outfield. Runner was standing on second when ball was first touched. Runner takes off. The ball is caught and the defense appealed the runner leaving too soon. They lost the appeal because the runner was on base at the first touch of a live ball by the defense. |

They may put themselves in jeopardy of being off the bag when the ball is pitched and being called out or by being off the bag when a ball is caught and putting themselves in an appeal situation. Yes, these actually happen. The runner is not constrained by a rule, but he may suffer the consequences of his choice to advance at the wrong time. I say he because we girls never do that...or do we? |
