May 7, 2018 SS11 60 posts | Somerville How many national championships have they won? What age brackets/divisions (50 major plus, 55 major plus, etc) has his teams won in? |
May 7, 2018 DaveDowell Men's 70 4296 posts | ss11 ... The only answer we are sure is accurate, involving the SSUSA's 50's, 55's and 60's divisions, is: LOTS ... Maybe someone from Sommerville Softball can be more specific ... And are you interested in only the current "Sommerville" team name, or are you also looking for Championships from their previous years under the name of "Seacrest Mavericks" and/or their other team, "Summy's"? ... That would also be LOTS ... As would the number of different sanctioning associations where they have earned titles ... |
May 7, 2018 SS11 60 posts | Dave, is Summy's teams possibly the most successful "organization" in senior softball's history? It seems Top Gun has many team in different age brackets as well. Just curious what dynasty might be the most successful in Senior Softball history. |
May 7, 2018 Benji4 Men's 55 289 posts | SS11 Nobody from SOMMERVILLE is going to come on this message board and tell you how many championships we have won. We have/are successful because every guy puts in the work necessary to help the team win. JK INC is probably the only other 40+ and 50+ team(s) as successful as SOMMERVILLE. And many players have played for both teams. Both Summy and JK are very good sponsors. |
May 8, 2018 DaveDowell Men's 70 4296 posts | SS11 ... This is a highly subjective question, and one for which no solid answer exists ... Unless, of course, the discussion is held where adult beverages are involved ... Who's better? ... Russell's Celtics? Jordan's Bulls? the Showtime Lakers? Bird's Celtics? the Spurs mini-dynasty? any team with LeBron James? Golden State now? ... Too many answers spanning too many years for a valid comparison ... Not wanting to offend anyone, but here's a team name I'll toss out ... They are certainly "in the discussion" ... The San Francisco Seals (now 75's) have won dozens (or more) World and National Championships in multiple associations at the highest levels of play (usually Major+) spanning at least five age groups over the past 25± Seasons ... Longevity of success over time counts ... My apologies in advance to a lot of other fine organizations/teams ... |
May 8, 2018 stick8 1991 posts | I would say the Mavericks / Seacrest Mavericks were the most dominating team I’ve ever played against in 50 major plus. I’ve had many a battle with them thru the late 2000’s thru the early 2010’s, coming out on tne short end almost every time. I would venture to say in those years they won pretty much everything they played in. How many national titles they won is hard to tabulate. Not that I necessarily enjoyed getting my rear end handed to me but I always looked forward to matching up,against them. As good as they were on tne field they were better guys off tne field. |

May 9, 2018 stick8 1991 posts | Very true Oz. They dominated 35’s and 40’s for years. Both Nothdruft and Mavericks had great teams with great players. And they were all gentleman. |
