Heart of Texas - Georgetown
Really disappointed in SSUSA with how they scheduled the Heart of Texas Tournament in Georgetown, TX. First of all they grouped the three 60 AA Teams (Relentless/Texas Legends/Team Texas) with the AAA Team in Pool and Bracket play despite their Manager Team Meeting Notes state the following: ..."Major/Major Plus and AAA teams where there are at least three teams will play each other one time around and then into a single elimination bracket. The play between each other will be for seeding." So how are they going to determine the 60AA Champion? In addition, they have scheduled games starting at 6:00am on Friday and Saturday mornings and games starting at 10:15pm on Friday. Yet, the championship game is at 11:00am Saturday morning! With 58 Teams and only 4 fields, its seems like they are trying to squeeze 10 lbs in to a 5 lbs bag.

Papajoe56 ... Please contact the local independent Texas Director who scheduled the event ... His contact information is available from the Heart of Texas Tournament Page of this website... The SSUSA Home Office scheduling department was not involved ... Good luck!

DaveDowell, our manager tried to contact him but could not connect. May be traveling to Georgetown. I was told by the scheduler that he made the decision to group all 60 AA & AAA teams together.

I'll take your word for it (don't have any other option) ... Not knowing who the scheduler might be, I suggested you contact the Director ...

Papajoe56, you kind of answered a BIG part of your disappointment in the last line of your post. I would imagine what a scheduling nightmare it was for the TD and his staff to schedule a 58 team tournament on only four fields. That's A LOT of games!!! There could be no other reason for starting so early (6AM) and going well into the night (10:15PM). I'm guessing they might also go to 45 mins or 50 mins (plus buffet) game time limit and starting with a 1-1 count, no courtesy for everyone to get it ALL in. I guess they have to do whatever they got to do to get it finished.

TheScreamer5, agree with the issue being 58 teams and only 4 fields. Maybe they should have considered more fields or fewer teams or classifications. The biggest disappointment is not really the game times...it’s the grouping of 3 AA teams with the AAA teams for bracket play. How will they determine the AA champion?

Relentless 60s is now AAA (as of May 9), so that means there are only two AA teams, not three. So a simple best of three format would determine the AA champion. For the 7 AAA teams, the bracket would take 14 or 15 games to determine the AAA champion. Total number of games for separate AA and AAA would be a minimum of 16 games and a max of 18, which is less than the 20 games for the combined AA/AAA tournament. Can that be worked in?

Or forego the 5-game guarantee and cut out the extra games in the losers bracket. That will ease up the scheduling. I do not mind going to the 4-game guarantee in this case.

The decision should have been to either a) take fewer teams or b) move to a complex with more fields such as College Station, Plano or a host of others in Texas. There will be several teams who will have a 10:15 PM start on Friday night and then play again at 6AM the following morning!!! How can that be? I don't know about anyone else but I'm too old to turn around that fast. They don't even let pilots turnaround that fast - they refer to it as being "illegal". Everyone enjoys a tournament with a lot of teams - but this format is crazy. And, I noticed the 50"s and 55" go late in to Sunday night for their championship. They can't be happy about that either. Good luck to everyone.

Carl20 - I noticed that the team ratings on the website indicates AAA but the tournament list of Teams/Bracket indicates they are AA. Not sure which is correct. You will notice they list Texas Legends as a AAA for the tournament but they are a AA rated team. AA is correct.

Check with the Tournament Director(s) onsite ... This tournament is NOT administered by the SSUSA Home Office, nor have we seen the games/bracket schedules ... Good luck!

The format for this tournament is what ruined the Boerne,tx tournament, allowing to many teams into a tournament. This one is a bit different there playing seeding games and the doing single elimination , for this amount of money and playing single elimination means it's about just the money not the game.

What 4 games quarentee we play 1 game at 6 am Friday and then the team we were scheduled to play no shows and we play 1 game Saturday and we're done talk about a crock. Keith Parker is ruining SSUSA Texas softball this was all about the money. He is too lazy to rescheduled some games and to post new brackets. This happens all the time with this director. We all say 2 words when things are so screwed up.. Keith Parker his actions shows he does not care about anything but the money. We only play SSUSA to qualify for Las Vegas and play in other organizations tourneys just to get playing time.

Txstarter, I heard quite a few players talking about their dissatisfaction throughout the weekend. Many stating the same issues you raised. I always thought SSUSA put on better tournaments than other senior organizations, however this year has already changed my mind, at least for Texas Tournaments.

I guess one positive note about this tournament is the posting of scores on the Quick Scores website. http://www.quickscores.com/texashalfcentury.

Parker is all about the money in his pocket. He screws up the Texas tournaments all the time. SSUSA has set the rules we should be playing by. You set up your tournaments and follow those guidelines. As a director you should be smart enough to know how many teams you can put on the number of fields you have and cut it off there so you can follow SSUSA rules. Rumor has it he screw over a team that signed up in March because he did not get their check he kicked them out of the tournament. How many teams have payed him when they arrived to the fields. (To many to count). Plus he made everyone hit that piece of junk ball Trump Stote because he had a stash of them at his house. SSUSA said we would hit new better balls this year. It's all about Parker not about the teams that participate who is actually the customer. Quickscores was working great until he decided to abandon it, Thenbat everything went south plus it took him 1 1/2 hrs to make the bracket and threw the tournament that much further behind. . SSUSA better get rid of Parker before he destroys the teams that participate in Texas SSUSA tournaments.

I played there this past weekend and we played Saturday morning at 6 am, then at 9:45. Our next scheduled game then was at 9:00 Saturday night. The tournament was running behind by then and we started after 10 and then had to play another game directly after that one. After we got back to our room and showered it was almost 2 am before I got to bed. I think saying on the website that the cutoff was 52 teams and having from what I was told 58 teams allowed to enter probably contributed to the crazy schedule.

I told our son after we got back home about it. He doesn't play ball and hasn't since Little League about it and his exact words were "Was someone new running it that didn't know what they are doing?"

L.Martin I don't think it's asking too much for someone running the tournament to have a certain amount of competence. It is, after all, a customer driven business.

This was a very poorly run tournament. In the 70's division, there were 5 teams,2 were co-champions because they didn't have enough time/fields to play the last game for the championship.

Gentlemen, we all had to see this coming. 58 total teams, only 4 fields, umpire shortages, heavy rain coming, etc., etc.,. There was no way around not having MAJOR scheduling issues and conflicts ALL weekend. I don't know what the TDs could've done to prevent any of that AFTER the tournament got started. I totally agree with Heater40 that they should've known BEFOREHAND the maximum number of teams they could have entered on the number of fields available to allow for more consistent scheduling. It was a nightmare for everyone involved. That said, we tried our best to adjust to a bad situation. I would suggest next time there is a field availability shortage that you try to get the smaller groupings completed and out the way first because you need more fields available at one time to work thru the bigger brackets. Sunday, it seemed like they were attempting get thru several age/divisions at the same time, which caused for even more confusion and frustration that was probably needed.

I played in this tournament. The umpiring was bad for us we had the same umpire for all our games. He had no clue,if the ball reached the plate it was high enough. The ball as usual was bad broke down it the Texas heat.I guess we we use the old red stitch Trump until our Texas Director runs out. Overall needs help
