Allen Pampe's passing
My teammate on the NorCal Reds, Allen Pampe, passed away suddenly Thursday morning 5/31/18 in Reno. He was 65 years old and had shown no signs of ill health. He was in uniform, looking forward to our winner's bracket game at the Rock N Reno tourney later that morning. While walking to breakfast at the hotel, he collapsed. CPR was started immediately by hotel staff and EMTs arrived within just a few minutes. They worked for nearly 45 minutes but were unable to restart Allen's heart.

Allen died surrounded by his wife Marge and many of his teammates. Allen and Marge were still madly in love after 20 years of marriage. They were inseparable fixtures at NorCal tourneys and SSUSA events. He was a power hitting catcher and first baseman who never had a bad word for any teammate or opponent. He was a true gentle giant who dearly loved his wife, his family and softball. We are devastated by this loss and will miss him deeply. We send our love to Marge and the Pampe family.

If you knew Allen and are in the Northern California area, a memorial service is scheduled.

We did hear rumors that one of your players had passed. It's tragic and reminds all of us senior players to enjoy the day. Sixty-five is far to young.

Please pass on our condolences to Allan's family and team-mates.

If you'd like to donate something in Allen's memory, the Pampe family supports the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation: www.thegsf.org.

The Foundation supports research to fight Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a genetic killer of infants and small children.
