July 2, 2018 TimMcElroy 942 posts | Quad-State Shootout tournament The entry period for the Quad-State Shootout has hit it's soft close. There are 29 teams currently entered with a few of them unpaid. I will give those teams 48 hours to get payments to me before beginning work on the schedule. My goal is to have start times released to all managers by Friday of this week (July 6). ************************************************************** Bert Bennett of Gaithersburg, MD lost his battle with cancer last night. Some of you knew of his struggle, many of you did not. He battled quietly using a combination of chemo and experimental treatment plans for a little over a year. During that time Bert focused his attention on his family, his friends and his passions (fishing and golf). If you played softball in the DC metro area at any point in the past 20 years, you knew Bert and remember his unique pitching style and "flip" delivery. He led our team to many wins but taught us to be better people along the way. His beliefs were simple- Sponsors put out good money for us to enjoy a game. * Respect them by wearing the uniform properly. * Respect the game by playing it honestly. * Make the plays you're supposed to and you won't have to talk about the plays that the other guy didn't. Bert Bennett was all class and and true ambassador to the game. I'm reeling today but want to do something to honor my friend. Effective immediately, the Quad-State Shootout will carry a new name. I look forward to seeing many of you at the BERT BENNETT MEMORIAL on July 13-15. |
