As I find out more information for his memorial I will pass along.

Ken is a true gentleman and was a giant among men in senior softball. He for years led his teams to great success on the field, but for me his true greatness was his genuine caring for his teammates and their families. One of the best days of my life was to have been there for his induction into the senior softball Hall of Fame [2012 Inductee]. My family has been truly blessed to know Ken and even though he will be missed greatly, he will never be forgotten.

Very sorry to hear of Ken's passing, the softball world will surely miss one of its great ambassadors. I, personally, always enjoyed the time that Ken and I had speaking about softball, and life in general, not to mention our team battles on the diamond. Our most sincere sympathy and condolences to Bunny and the family.

Ken was an icon in our sport. Plus he was a class act and he will be missed by not only his players but the players who played against his teams.
Rest in Peace!

Ken gave me my first real opportunity to play "big time" softball. He loved the game and supported it in anyway possible . He always treated me with respect and I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 years with the Mavericks!

He should be remembered for all the good he did! RIP!

If you have any thoughts of stories you can share. Please take a minute and send to me. I am trying to put together something for his family. I do not have a smidgen of the email addresses I need to send this to past players and or friends.

When I was asked to write something for the Newsletter, I was humbled and knew I would leave out whole years of Kenisms that I just did not know about.

One issue where I was woefully inadequate was happened when Ken left softball. Again I will miss things because I just don't know, but I do know:

That he was asked many times to return to the game with other teams, but refused because he wanted to manage his guys and stay at 50 Major+. Lord knows I tried to get him, but it did not happen.

George Santoro, Wayne Harper and Manny Escobar visited and kept in contact with Ken.

Bunny encouraged players to call and leave messages for Ken because he would always listen to them.

I was woefully inadequate in recognizing the blessing that Bunny was/is to Ken. Her commitment to him in sickness and in health truly defines Love in the biblical sense.

Early on in my time with senior softball Kenny asked me to play with the Mavericks. What I’ll never forget was the first thing Kenny asked me was my wife’s name (he never met her), and her jacket size, and shirt size. He wanted my wife to be comfortable with me playing and feel part of the team.

I decided to stay with the team I was with I think the Arizona MOB at the time. I told Kenny I enjoyed being on the chasing side rather than the chased. He was gracious, understood my decision and told me he enjoyed watching me play.

I’m sure this will make sense you probably have a team or two that brings out the best in your game. When you play the best you find things in your game you didn’t know you had, and you get a chance to work on your weaknesses.

Gary Springer I have been in contact with Ken and Bunny once to twice a year since he left the game. I also saw him a week or so before he got his angel wings. I can confirm softball days and nights along with the team dinners with his softball friends / family were a very, very, very big part of Kens passions! ONLY one thing took a front seat...his ANGEL wife Bunny! It would be impossible to receive more love and better care than what Ken received from Bunny. Maybe the same...but not better! Amazing! There are not many people in our game of slow pitch softball that spend their time and money so we can play. May Ken Rest In Peace...I know I speak for many many players when I say...Thank you for everything Ken!

What can you say about a Man who gave you everything, Ken on the field was a General "but" when all was done for that day he was the most generous person I've ever known. A little story I will always talk about to friends and my teammates is when Ken tried to recruit me to play for his Mavericks Team in a restaurant, I looked at him and said Ken Im only 48 give me a couple years please ! He smiled and said straight faced I'll see you then.. I want to say Thank You Ken for all you ever did for me, I would never be able to repay you for everything you passed my way... R.I.P Ken . #28

softball4b, I just wanted to tell you that this has really touched me, and you are a good friend. I read through the testimonial that you put together and everything that you have put here, I can tell that he was well loved and thought of, but you are a great friend keeping him alive and letting the rest of us get to know him as well. It has brought gentle tears to my eyes because I try to do the same thing for my departed husband. We are the ones that keep our loved ones alive and known to others. I wish that I was close so that I could pay my respects to him and to you, his dear friend. Thank you. We should all be so fortunate to have a friend like you. You, his wife, family, friends, and teammates are in my prayers.

Full Disclosure. There are others that were closer and MUCH better friends. This is my humble attempt to honor a man in passing that I was not as close to in the past few years as I should have been.

softball4b, that is thoughtful of you to say that, but you are doing everything that you can to honor him now which is probably a great comfort to his wife and the others that you spoke of. I feel like I know Ken now because of you. You give a good reminder to be kind and hug those in our lives because none of us know when our or their expiration date is. Hugs.
