50 Worlds in Vegas, Start day is no Thursday. Most players will not be able to make Thursday
What will happen if a Team is a no show or cannot field a full team for a Thursday game? Most 50\55 guys I know still work and were not ready to take off the extra day.

kbriggs 44 ... Rulebook §15.5 (page 75) addresses this circumstance ... In larger brackets, it's beneficial to be in a position to win the first bracket game ... That will not be the case when §15.5 applies ... This rule has been in the Rulebook for over 15 years and came about because of an actual situation where a team declined to play their seeding games ... They showed up fresh (and not dinged-up) for the bracket and ran the table to a World Championship .. We're not inclined to put all other teams in the bracket at a disadvantage, so the rule, though seldom employed, is in place ... Good luck! ...
__________

§15.5TEAMS MUST PLAY SEEDING GAMES
Teams must play in the round robin, or preliminary rounds, of the tournament to be eligible to play in the finals. At the discretion of the tournament director, teams not playing one or more round-robin, or seeding game, will be seeded last in the elimination bracket finals and will receive an automatic loss in that game, forcing them to the loser's bracket of the elimination rounds.

How can most 50/55 guys not have enough seniority not to be able to take an extra day off from work? We've known about this for a long time! Now these regional tournaments that start on Friday may be a different story!

Jawood, we always planned for the Worlds as well from the beginning of the season when the guys were 50 - 55 (I was 40 - 45 at the time and was always there to scorekeep and help Coachie). Coachie's jobs were never with paid off leave; so I know that it is tough and am grateful for the job that I have. It makes me sad to think that attrition will probably eventually make attendance smaller which may eliminate the extra day needed for scheduling. I think about all the players at Metro that were old way back when, but they are probably all playing on a Field of Dreams somewhere. Metro opened the year after WWII ended; so they have a lot of teams in that league.

No problem, we're happy to help ... Information out front of the occurrence is always better than finding out on the fly! ... This is a rare circumstance, but it DID come up this week in the Western National's ... A team told us after the schedules were published that they can't play on Friday ... So we re-drafted the schedule and they saw they were seeded last and were deemed to lose their first bracket game Saturday morning ... So a couple days later, we got another call from them saying they could play on Friday after all! ... Sometimes all it takes is knowing the consequences in advance to clarify the difference between "don't want to play" and "can't play"! ... Thanks for the question ...

Las Vegas is talking about building more complexes, so this may not be a long term problem.

Well for us it's not about not wanting to play. We want to play, we just might have to play short if we can get guys there. For myself I just cannot get there Thursday as is the case for a few other guys.

Kbriggs44 ... Poorly worded on my part. I believe you want to play, and we were hopefully allowing you to make a fully informed decision. Good luck.

VegasBob ... Bet the "over" on that one. New facilities talk is frequently heard and seldom implemented. For example, how's that 30-field complex in Mesquite coming along?

You're right, Dave. Even large casino projects are announced in this town that never get built.

Bob, other than Big League Dreams, and the expansion at Bullhead City, there just haven't been any new venues built in our neck of the woods. Lived in Palm Springs, they talked about it every year, nothing ever came of it. Las Vegas has the land on the outskirts, but not sure there is a driving force or $$$ to make it happen.
Dave, checked with Station Casino Sports Book, no line for under/over on softball park construction yet!
