New Ball
Staff,
May we here any test results? Hold up in heat is a nice start.
Are there any other determining factors in choosing this Ball?

It is supposed to be in the high 90's this weekend in the Sacramento, CA area for Westerns. I look forward to trying out the new ball in that heat. I am curious if this ball will knuckle as much as the Rock does.

Valdosta, GA forecast highs this week range from 84-89° with high humidity, so that should yield some verifiable performance characteristics on the humidity side of the environmental equation ... I'll be observing that onsite personally ...

That's what was published in the SSUSA Newsletter sent out yesterday. The NEW Trump Microcel will be used in the Eastern & Western Nationals.

I will answer this question 100%- the ball is great in heat and humidity. The ball has been in use in FHC league for three months now and is a terrific ball. It goes well, holds up in the heat and humidity of Florida and is a quality ball. No one should be unhappy about the ball.

Dave, so they didn't believe you when you said that you would be observing it in Valdosta? Have a great tournament, kid.

J R ... Please contact Stephanie in the SSUSA Home Office at (916) 326.5303 next week ... She's out of the office working as a Field Director this week for the Western National's ... The pricing will be competitive, whatever it turns out to be ... NOTE: We may initially restrict immediate availability or limit quantities to ensure the demand for our Tournament consumption isn't compromised by outside sales ...

How does it throw? are the treads grip able like the trump ball? or It it more like the Rock Ball....Thin treads, hard to grip and so light, it floats sometimes!

rightrj1, please take this a funny because my Mom was an English professor and editor, but I am hoping that the new balls have threads and not treads for easy throwing.

The new ball performs very well in hot conditions plus it is easy to grip so not problem throwing it. You should all like it. It will knuckle a bit but not like the Rock.

Thank you SSUSA for making the change.

[1] The "new" ball is now the "official" ball and will be used in all except two events on our annual tournament calendar ... We are obligated by contract with our partners LVSSA to use "The Rock" ball for the LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters and LVSSA/SSUSA Southwest Championships events ... The three remaining other events on the 2018 Season schedule, the Southern, Northern and Rocky Mountain Championships will use the new ball ...

[2] We may initially restrict sales for immediate availability, or limit quantities, to ensure the demand for our Tournament consumption isn't compromised by those outside sales ...

It was about 100* here in Lincoln, CA today. This is where the 65s are playing Western Nationals. The ball in my opinion is great in all respects. It did not die in the heat like the Trump used to. It does not knuckle or move around like the Rock and though the seems are flat, it throws well.

We've been using the Team 1 Sports 44/375 MicroCell (Alan Tanner's ball) since May in our senior league. I believe it's basically the same ball and throughout cool 60 degree days through 90+ and humid days it has been the best ball we've ever used. They have held up so well that some of the game used balls from last season were used as back up balls this season with no discernible difference.

Since I own the rights to "Microcell Technology" for softball Im very happy to see the people finally realized its the best choice. Look for a Evil Microcell ball to be released approved for senior use by the spring.

We played in Sacramento this week with the new ball. For the first 2 days, I was beginning to believe I didn't really see much difference. We (Timberworks 65 M+) hit maybe 5 HR's in 4 games. When I hit it square-line drive, it seemed not to carry well, but when it had some backspin, it would go further. But Thursday, in the 'if' game, all of a sudden we hit 7 or 8 in the game. I didn't even feel I hit my HR super well, but it went over easily. Defensively, not as many knuckle balls as the Rock-seemed to be true hops in the infield. Easier to throw and control than the Rock (which sails sometimes). So my observation is-not sure yet, but we will see. Overall I would say positive response.
